Anyone tried the ToneWorks AX3G?

I saw https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?t=82044&highlight=AX3G"] jclogston's thread about the Korg ToneWorks AX3G, but not much more discussion since then. I'm thinking of getting one for late night practice. I don't need the bigger model with the expression pedal.

Has anybody tried this little unit? I'm concerned mostly with low- to mid-gain sounds, like blackface through JCM800. No high gain shredding here. My effects needs modest - modulation and echo will do it.

Who's tried it, and what did you think?

Hey Rich; One more thing you might want to throw into the mix is the Yamaha MagicStomp II. Musicians Friend is blowing these out for $80. I can give you a better review tomorow, or the next day . . . when it comes.

For that price, the Yamaha seems like it would be worth snatching up. I have an older version of the Korg, the AX1B for bass, but I'm sure it is quite different. The effects are not very refined, but with lighter settings on each parameter run through either of my amps, even layering up effects sounds pretty good.

I believe this thing has the same front end of the Vox DA5/DA15.

If thats the case, it will def do what you want. I don't recall the price of the Toneworks, but do not rule out the DA5 itself. It runs about $125, and is the perfect late night/bedroom amp. It's very portable/can run on batteries. Headphone out sounds great. It's got a line out for recording. And amazingly enough it can get REALLY great tones at REALLY low volumes through it's speaker..low enough not to wake up my 6 year old son sleeping in my bedroom while I'm playing. Wattage adjusts from 1/2w to 1.5w to 5w. It will also CRANK at 5 watts. Pretty dang loud.

I have a few clips up at my soundclick page : www.soundclick.com/litrtrdnck first 3 or 4 on the page I guess are all Da5. Nice thing about it is ALL the models sound good..and are SUPER easy to dial in. The Valvetronix def takes more volume, and quite a bit more tweaking to get 'em to sound right.

EDIT: the onboard delay/reverb are excellent. The modulation effects like chorus/rotary/flanging are pretty decent as well.

No brainer! Magic Stomp ordered. In 30 years of guitar playing, I've NEVER owned a piece of Yamaha gear that was less than first-rate. Despite my general distaste for MF/GC - I got free shipping and they took PayPal. Gotta love that.

I had seen that blow-out deal, but missed the fact that the MSII has amp modelling. I thought it was effects-only. Shame on Yamaha for not providing a clear list of all the models and effects this thing includes.
