Anyone tried these tuners off ebay?

Re: Anyone tried these tuners off ebay?

Only tuners I have experience with are Grovers and Pings. The Pings were garbage so I went back to Grovers.

Re: Anyone tried these tuners off ebay?

I was just curious to know what people thought of using cheaper tuners.

I'll most likely install genuine Schaller locking tuners on my guitar when i get to shorting out the neck on it - needs a refret soon and i wanna sand down the back of the neck too.

Essentially doing an overhaul on my 89-91 (not sure what year) Charvel 375. It's getting new electronics/pickups (probably a YJM Fury in the neck and 59 trembucker in the bridge) and a brass block for the schaller floyd it has for now. The neck i will look at later.

I like light, dumb tuners. They tend to not cost much. Vintage style Gotohs come to mind. Sperzels are a bit inexact but they are aluminium cased and fairly priced.

I try to avoid mounting Chevy small block v8 equivalents on my guitars.

I have the Guitar Parts Online Sperzel knock offs on my Epi explorer . Been on for a couple years and they are holding up rather good.

Re: Anyone tried these tuners off ebay?

I know Jay Parmar uses some cheap ones he got off of EBAy as he kind of surprised that I use sperzels (he said he found them underwhelming). You might want to hit his site and see what cheap ones he uses as he can get kind of nuts with the bar as well as doing behind the nut type country bends and they work for him.

I can't recommend them only because I have no experience with 'em.

Re: Anyone tried these tuners off ebay?

I put a set of these on a Strat type guitar and was very happy with them. Very high quality, they are Wilkinson after all, and hold tuning very well. Instead of using the traditional pin method, they have a second set of holes at 90° from the first set. Run the string through one hole, wrap it 3/4 around the post then through the other hole, tune to pitch, and done.

Simplicity is often best. I really like the idea of those tuners.
