Re: Anyone Try Dimarzio Chopper or Billy Corgan Pickups BC-1, BC-2?
BC has several different tones. On Mayonaise, he did use a pawnshop cheap strat with crappy oem pups and fuzz pedal of some sort, may be Big muff, so go figure.
The BC-2 is a modded Tone Zone S
The BC-1 is a modded Air Norton S.
His strat also has a chopper in the middle, which I never seen him use in live videos.
Most of the post-gish live shows he did had lace sensors RSB, so if I had to put a label on how to achieve the 90's live "Corgan" tone, those would be it. The gish and pre-gish and parts of siamese dream had the 70's strat with single coils. But in reality, he probably used more than 40 different types of guitars for the records. During their final tour in 1999 and 2000 or whatever, he started using mostly gibson guitars, and even Ibanez and Jazzmaster copy on few shows.
The Dimarzio that he is using now is only to develop his new sound, it won't "cop" his old sound, it's not suppose to, just marketing hype. They're about as relevant as using JB to play cherub rock, and I've used just that, it sounded awesome.
My favorite corgan tone would've been around the gish era, before the fuzz became all the rage.
Chopper has higher output and mids than Fast Track 1, which has higher output than cruiser. Cruiser sounds most like an ordinary single coil.
I've used Fender High output Alnico 3 (stock), Chopper, Air Norton S, Heavy Blues 2, BC-2, Fred, and Duncan Phat Cat on the bridge of a same strat, and now I am waiting on Fast Track 2 to arrive.
