WOW,is all i have to say! Custom Shop designed and it shows! These guitars are MIM but are better than the American Standard Series IMO! Both the 50s and 60s are designed by Fender Master builders and have USA hardware and pickups. The CP50s have Custom Shop 57/62 pups and the 60s have Custom Shop 69`s initialed and dated by Abigail Ybarra herself! The 50s have a soft V neck with a 9.5 radius and the 60s have a C with a 12 radius, and both have medium jumbo frets. I bought the 50s and its the best Strat i`ve ever had and that`s saying something!! If you are a Fender fan and you have not checked out these guitars yet,i highly recommend you do!!!

This is more what people want. I think they just want a well built vintage style guitar, but with a more playable neck in terms of radius, width, and fret size.

That makes a great strat right out of the box. Prevoiusly, if you wanted to just buy a strat to just play, and you wanted a modern feeling neck, you also had to get a american standard bridge, lace sensors, a biflex truss rod, and so forth..... Or if you got a vintage re-issue you had get it refretted or put a warmoth neck on it or something.

Didn't try them but there is an excellent review in this month Guitarist. Might be worth a try even though my mind was getting set on catching a tele for my next guitar.

I've played around with a beautiful Shoreline Gold CP 50 and it was killer! It ranked right up there with the American quality, feel and tone. It better, it isn't much cheaper.

Which months Guitarist is that? Might have to arrange for my Mother-in-Law to go pick me up a copy.

I tried a 50's earlier this week. Played really nice, felt really comfy. Didn't get to plug it in but the body resonated well. Very well put together. I'd snag one.

About like the Classic Players Baja Tele I just purchased. Mexican but designed by the Custom shop. Very nice, better than any other MIA Tele they had in stock and you can feel the resonance rumble in your belly!!!! Came very close to walking out with a 50's strat as well. But maybe another day.

I can't wait to try the Gold Strat from this series!!!!!

Re: Anyone try Fender`s Classic Player 50s or 60s Strats?

I tried a couple 60's, and the necks were nice. I'm not a big fan of the 12" radius. Feels more like an Ibanez or Gibson. No problem shredding on a nice comfy vintage radius. The necks were nice but thick poly and very little tint to them. I wish they did a satin finish and a six screw trem.

The strats were real heavy too. MIM is using some heavy wood. We also have a baja tele at the store I work at and it's also a brick. I've heard of some guys getting light ones, but not very often.

I guess the weight does vary, but that always seems to be the case with Strats! My CP60s is fairly light, havn`t weighed it but i would guess around 7lbs. at the most. Awesome guitar!!

7 lb.s would be almost be a feather for a strat bro'. 7.5 lb.s is a good avg. weight. After it gets to 8.5 lbs. it starts to remind me of the 70's strats. But those were mostly well over 10 lb.s!!

Yeah, well i`m just guessing! Its definitely not in the 8lb. range. I`d would say 7-7.5!

Re: Anyone try Fender`s Classic Player 50s or 60s Strats?

i prefer heavier strats and teles.... i guess because of my days with the 70's LP i had used for years.... i like the weight of the aveage American Standard and heavier. It's good to hear these guitars have some weight....

I sold a strat because i didn't like the extra light weight to it...

I saw a solid Warmoth Swamp Ash body with a weight of 2.9 on there site yesterday.... for sure that would not be for me!

Re: Anyone try Fender`s Classic Player 50s or 60s Strats?

Not tried the 50's or 60's models yet, but I did customise a Deluxe Player's Strat about a year ago.
Fine quality for the value that one, no doubt about it, nice guitar for it's price and comes loaded with decent gear. Like I had to replace the pickups for the guy, and he did get good value selling the Fender Vintage Noiseless ones for example, so no worries yet if you don't like the pups that come with it, you will mostlikely be able to sell them at good value.
All round, yes, these guitars seem real good value for Fenders, and are defenitely worth checking out. On the other hand, don't know how much people will truly appreciate them, since models like the Special Edition Lite Ash Strat are not liked by all, and those are fantastic guitars for the money too imho.

Re: Anyone try Fender`s Classic Player 50s or 60s Strats?

i bought a classic player 50's last month.....

I never felt that the mexican made strats were up there with the US strats but these are.....even better.........really....the only thing i am going to change is a minor rewiring....the CP 50's has in the 4 pos of the switch neck+bridge, while i prefer neck+middle.....

Very nice v neck, excellent fretwork, and finally good electronics-pickups..excellent quality overall...it even has some locking vintage looking tuners.....for the price i really cannot find a reason to spend the extra 300euros for a US one......this time fender really got it right

I tried one of the baja player. Finishes weren't particularly tidy and I couldn't get along with the baseball bat in place of the neck. I guess it is a hit & miss thing. The one didn't feel as good as the ash MIA teles I tried lately.

About the guitarist magazine, it is the latest to date.
