Anyone try the Soldano Avenger?

I tried the Soldano SLO and liked the lead channel, and the Avenger is supposed to be just the lead channel in a single channel amp. Just wondering what your experiences were.

Thanks,
William

The Avenger doesn't sound EXACTLY like the SLO but close enough. It's a fantastic high gain head. I think I posted a link to Avenger clips which the dude installed EL34 tubes in it. The sound was fantastic! The SLO has some really awesome white transformers. I don't think the Avenger has those same ones.

I haven't played all of the Soldanos but this is the way it goes.

Avenger = SLO overdrive
Avenger Hot Rod = SLO overdrive & crunch channel
Lucky 13 = Blackface Twin clean & SLO overdrive
Decatone = Soldano clean, crunch & overdrive

If you want a clean channel on your head, the Lucky 13 is it. They say it has the same overdrive as an SLO. Just for the overdrive you would get an Avenger. For crunch that cleans up fairly well & SLO overdrive it's the Hot Rod +. I think the Decatone has that Soldano sound but a different beast. Then you have the best amp in the world, the SLO :)

Re: Anyone try the Soldano Avenger?

Even though the Avenger is a single channel amp, it has a lot of useable tones within it's gain range. It's a very good sounding Soldano, and I like it more than the Hot Rod series, which sounds more trebley to my ears.

I sometimes search for them on Ebay and craigslist, wondering if I'll come across an ending auction at a bargain.
