Anyone use a 59(n) and Custom 5 in a Les Paul?

Any thoughts as to how it sounds?

How do they sound as you turn down the volume/tone pots?

Not a huge fan of the 59 in the neck of my LP. I found it to be a bit boomy and bright with not enough push to the mids. Swap it out for a PGn, though, and I think you'll have a rocking combo. :burnout:

Hmm...

In the neck, for leads I want something that sounds thick/fat and somewhat sludgy/soupy....I'm not looking for a whole lot of articulation (like a Jazz for instance), or particularily cutting (like a mid boosted pup), but I do need it articulate and uncompressed enough that I can play neck rhythm with moderate gain and not loose the nuances.

That will do it. Mid gain is still pretty dynamic/responsive (assuming the amp is) without getting too compressed.

But it thickens up quick.

Custom-b or 59b, I know..can't help ya on the C5. I think GJ is the only person who likes the C5 on the boards

I like it in a DARK guitar or for 80's metal in other guitars!!!

The PGn is still plenty fat and works very well under med. gain, it's just not boomy.

You probably will like the C5/59 combo if you need a bunch of lows.

I have a C5 in my Hamer and it has a ton of chunk.
