Anyone use MIDI in their recordings?

Check some of my MIDI tunes out. Only discovered soundclick last week ... on this forum.

I do vocals and guitars ... but use MIDI for most of the rest. Sometimes I do bass or keyboards ... but usually MIDI. Anybody else played around with this method?

I've done about a 100 tunes ... posted a dozen or so really varied styles ... Steeley Dan to Led Zeppelin to Marshall Tucker to Nat King Cole to Glen Miller. I think it's pretty cool technology and it forces (allows) me to attempt some radical guitar and vocals styles.

Re: Anyone use MIDI in their recordings?

I once used midi drums and bass in a paranoid cover. Now that I have a decent drum machine and a bass, I'm too lazy to remix it

just midi guitar here, no sequencing, i just record the audio.

Re: Anyone use MIDI in their recordings?

I think without MIDI my band Infinite Ending would have a massive problem with 2 people and up to 20 instruments besides the guitar :laugh2:

Use it for drums and occaisional synths - it's integral in most all studio's these days.

OK ... I've uploaded some more stuff. What do you think? All recorded in my den with an old Shure 57 mic ... one track at a time to a PC. Except for the MIDI of course.

Re: Anyone use MIDI in their recordings?

I've used it from drums, but I'm using smart loops now... I still use midi for strings though (can't fit a small orchestra into my den!)

Seems like I've heard of smart loops ... isn't that a piece of software ... Musicians Supply ... is that where I saw it? Do you recommend?

I actually got hooked up with them through Cakewalk... Smart Loops

I think you can get them at Musicians Friend, but they offer direct order deals that are pretty good. They also have free loops you can download. They're all wav files so they are easy to plug in - and some of them are acid loops which work really well with different tempos.

To me, wav loops sound a lot better than midi since they are recordings of real drums and you aren't dependent on your sound card to emulate the drum. Smart Loops also makes bass loops, which I used before I bought a bass.

I;m using a different piece of software (Multitrack not Cakewalk). Sounds like this is an add-in to Cakewalk.
