Anyone Using A Teese Wizard Wah? Curly Do Read In!

STRATDELUXER97

Stratoblaster Tone Meister
I bought the Picture Wah a few weeks ago and returned it after I realized that my tweaked out Vox 847 was competing with it...I then got myself a reissue Vox Clyde 848 and tweaked that and liked that one alot also...This 848 has been my favorite after doing the Fulltone pot and inductor and some board tweaks after alot of listening to the board changes I Made..

Curly and Lew were phenomenal guys in letting me borrow their wahs...Curly sent me his Teese RMC1 and Lew sent me his Fulltone Clyde Deluxe...Both different sounding wahs entirely!

Curly's Teese wah has a very smooth(almost dark)ballsy tone with prominent mids and good vocal range and a nice boost. This wah doesn't cut like a vintage voiced wah however in a band and lacks some of the highs of Lew's wah..Curly's RMC1 is voiced for a strat and is a strat player's dream wah...This wah has a boosted overall tone and a slight increase in unity gain when you engage the pedal, but this baby is smooth, smooth, smooth! Not a wah for the humbucker users..

Lew's Fulltone is way more vintage sounding and has less lows and balls, but is more quacky and vocal sounding..Lew's expensive Deluxe wah has the vintage "Jimi" Vox Clyde McCoy voicing, but goes steps further and offers 2 other wah voices.."Shaft" and "Wacked" plus a volume/gain level control on the side of the wah...I like the Fulltone's vintage tone better than the Teese Picture wah I returned,in fact i've been watching for either the standard Fulltone Clyde or a Teese Wizard Wah...

I've done some extensive research and experimenting on wahs lately...I've come to the conclusion that I crave the earliest wah tones, but with more lows added into the circuit to beef things up a bit...I also like the toe down postion to be less ice picky in it's extreme toe down position...Special thanks to my buddy Curly who has been listening to his own 847,848,and his great sounding RMC1 while we experiment and voice these wahs...

Just wondering if any of you are using the Wizard Wah after all my babbling! :smack:

great review! I tried that same side by side trial. I liked the smoothness of the rmc-1. I actually would like to have both the fulltone deluxe and the rmc. I really want to try the rmc-2, and the rmc-3 also.

John, I got home from 4 days camping on thursday night and the wahs you rebuilt for me were sitting on my work bench when I arrived. I haven't had a chance to try them yet. I have monday off so I'll be able to give them a work out tommorrow. Thanks in advance...I know the two you rebuilt for me are going to be awesome! Everything you've done for me has been awesome so I think it's a safe bet that my two old wah wahs will be killers too! I'll let'cha know after I've had a chance to play them. I only use the "Jimi" setting on the Fulltone, BTW. The "wacked" and "shaft" settings are cool but not for me. I want to sound like Jimi Hendrix or Clapton when I use a wah. Lew

I'm finding that less is more on a wah....1 great wah tone is all anyone needs..All those adjustments lead to possible unstability problems down the road...Those adjustable pots are rated for +or - 10% compared to a metal film resistor rated for 1%,,,The more you turn those pots over a period of a long time,I say you risk a pedal that isn't as accurate or stable after awhile..I'd be very happy with the RMC1 or the Wizard Wah....For vintage wah tones,I Liked Lew's wah the best...You could use any guitar with Lew's Fulltone wah....

I agree with you...When I play through a wah,it has to have the vibe of Jimi,Trower,Clapton etc...That's the correct wah tone for me...I'm basically trying to voice the wahs with that in mind after hearing several wahs and versions of what a great wah should sound like..

As a side note though: If you are a strat player that plays in the bridge position alot with single coils, get the RMC1....This is a dark wah with humbuckers, but it was voiced for the strat guy for sure..

You'll find your 847 to be alot more vocal, vowel like, and quacky....Your Crybaby is smoother sounding and not as vocal in the overall range, but it's different from the Vox and I guess it's cool to have some different sounding effects? Why have 3 pedals that all sound the same? Your Clyde will edge out my 847 but not by a lot....Mine's voiced slightly away from the stock values your Clyde has...Anyway...Hope they do something for ya? :32:

"BTW. The "wacked" and "shaft" settings are cool but not for me. I want to sound like Jimi Hendrix or Clapton when I use a wah. Lew"

I'd be fine with the Fulltone Clyde Standard and I'd add the volume/gain control to the side...All that volume pot control does is to replace a 68k input resistor that controls your input signal..Just like the 68k resistor in most amps....Fuller uses a 100k pot to replace the 68k..This gives you anywhere from about 2 ohms all the way up to 100k...
Fuller claims he likes the "wacked" setting the best when he uses his wahs..Personally I really only liked the "Jimi" setting myself..The "Shaft" setting would be completely useless to me..This puts the standard Clyde wah into most musician's reach...The Deluxe model is just way too expensive for a 1 trick pony in my opinion..

I had a Wizard Wah for a brief period, but I prefered my modded Vox.

Really? This was the exact same thing that happened after buying the Picture Wah...Maybe I'm alot happier with my own modded Vox wahs? I have the 848 and two 847s....And an older Crybaby currently on e bay...
