Anyone using Vox Valvetronix Live?

I am thinking of getting the New 100watt XL version for my hard rock band which has a two guitarists (including me), drummer and bass, I am the lead guitar, but do play tons of rhythms

How has the Valvetronix series worked for you live? Does it cut through, is it lound enough, does the sound change as the volume is blasted, does the footswitch give you enough flexiblilty, how does it work with pedals and things in the loop, etc.?

Let me know ASAP, because I may buy it to try out at a gig this weekend.

Currently I am using a crate tube amp with a distortion pedal on the clean channel

Re: Anyone using Vox Valvetronix Live?

I don't have the 100 watt head but I do have the 50 watt combo (AD50VT). I've been using it with my band for a little more than a year now and it's never failed me. It cuts through just fine, has more than enough power, and the tone is incredible with it up loud. Once that speaker broke in, oh yeah, sweet. Sometimes I forget I'm playing through a modeling amp. That is how good the thing is in a band situation. I don't even need to put the wattage selector up all the way, although I have. It shakes the walls at full power. :)

I've got the B button on the footswitch set up give me manual mode on the amp, which is where my lead tone is. Button A goes between the Vox AC30TB model and the UK 80's model for rhythm. My lead tone is the same as the rhythm, just more volume to get out front. There's no effects loop in the combos so I can't help ya there.

I have the same scenario as Erik...I have the VTH 120 stereo head version that I run through the matching Vox cab with a set of V30 speakers...

The amp consistently sounds great,is versatile to cover all of our band's styles, and it has some great tones that are easy to dial up...

I've been using mine live and at practices for close to 2 years now with 0 problems! I Love this amp and Erik and I are surely on the same page with it..

i had a vt100 combo and it sounded great. not as good as an all-tube amp, but still kind of warm and articulate with good crunch. there's a 60 watt neodog for around $600 or so, and i think it's the best sounding of the valvetronix line.

One other thing I love about the Valvetronix, and I'm talking about the silver series (or BBQ grill models) is they take pedals really well. Since they (the silver series) don't have the pedal models like the blue grill series, you can throw your favorite overdrive in front of it and expect it to work well.

I have the 50 watt version also,(and it is set up just like ErikH,same models to boot) and I love this amp. I really find the louder it is the better. I find that with the foot switch set as Erik said you can have 3 sounds set in and use pedals if you need more. I have a MXR Zakk overdrive and a Digitech distortion factory for added distortion and can cover lots of ground.

Re: Anyone using Vox Valvetronix Live?

i have the 120 watt bule grill head and i've been using it live in my metal band for the past 5 or 6 months. I've never had a problem cutting through or being heard in any room that i've palyed in. Definatly one of the better investments i've made. I don't have the footswitch for mine, but live i just use one setting, then i have different presets for recording and messing around at home. It does anything i could ever want.
