Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

Well, I am pretty much set to make the plunge.

I am going the Bogner route and buying a Bogner Shiva 2x12 Combo, non-reverb model. I am fine with no reverb, because I hate the way it f---s the gain channel. It comes with Road Cases. Best oart is it's easy to turn into a head.

Anyone wanna buy a Marshall 6100 or Framus Dragon? (I'm serious btw =) )

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

I'm pretty happy with my EL-34 non-reverb Shiva, so I can't really help with talking you out of it.

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

I don't see why we shuld talk you out of this. I only heared good things about Bogner lately. Go go go... Enjoy and rock on!

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

2x12 Shiva Combo in a road case? Two words come to mind: "back pain".

I would never consider a 2x12 combo. Ever. In addition to the weight issue, I find it a lot easier to load out a separate head/cab, especially if you're ever going to need to load it in your car's trunk.

That said, the Shiva's a nice sounding amp. Not necessarily my cup o' tea (I prefer my Rivera for the Fender/Marshall combination) but a nice amp that's built like a brick outhouse.

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

folks, one of the big things for me is that I have a head cab available to me so making it into a head is easy as pie (did I just say "easy as pie"?)

So I might do the 2x12 cab and head thing. Thing is this way i have the combo ALSO. Some tours, the combo is the easier way to go. Like I tour anymore ha!

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

I love my Bogner EL-34 Shiva w/ verb, can't imagine not having it. It's amazing what just a little reverb can do to the tone and the stock Accutronics tank is pretty good.

If you're not too crazy about the reverb, take the plunge. The Shiva pretty much ended my tone search and I've built my rig around it. If you ever want it down the road, just get one of those Little Lanilai reverb pedals and feed it into your FX Loop and you'll be all set.

Oh, and for those that care, here's my setup:

Bogner 4x12'' baby!!!! :D

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

Since you're keeping the Marshall Super Lead, I won't talk you out of it. Now if you were selling that, then there'd be problems...LOL. :D

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

Ah, you got a straight Bogner 4-12! Tell me that's not the fattest sounding cab ever made!

FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT :D

Love it! With my LP Special DC that mother sings!

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

Well, I almost sold my Super Lead, but instead I want to keep it just for the value alone. Every few months someone offerrs me $200 more than the last lol. Anyways it sounds and records like a beast. It's just hard to use. I put FX into it and it never has the same thing as just being cranked with a Hot Plate. I figured the Shiva would solve this problem.
So far no one is talking me out of it per se.

how did you find the framus man?

I love the Framus. It has a midrange snarl that is gorgeous. It's huge, massive bass that can be dialed in and out, Midi, 3 channels, though the clean isn't something you could play funk on. I am only thinking of another direction bc my sound is kinda built around plexi-ish Marshall tones. I use duncans for the same reason. There are better boutique pups than Duncans, but duncans have the tone of the records I am trying to make. I am thinking the Bogner may as well.

the Framus Dragon is dark and meant to be cranked into the mix. You have to put up the presence. You can Shred on it, as 2 of my friends do on their albums. It's kind of a modern take on a 80s Hot Rod Marshall with a hint of smooth, huge saturation like all the Soldano/5150/Bogner/Diezel stuff out.

Oh god, Here I am back to "retro rock". Lord!

Speaking of FX, the Shiva's loop was (is?), uh, idiosyncratic. IIRC, as of a few years ago, you needed a "ducking cable" to use post-preamp FX.

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

The Shiva loop sucks. Plus, I prefer Parallel loops so you can get pure tone.
Trust me it worries me. That's why I question this move. However, I only like a little verb, and I don't want the verb affecting the dirty channel as I had said.

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

The "ducking" cable has been described at lengths over at TGP. Some people like the FX Loop, many hate it. I use it all the time and I use a cable modded with different resistors than the cable diagram on Bogner's website. Should you ever need it, contact me.

With Bogner's resistor values, I thought the amp became cold and dull. If directions aren't followed properly on the cable, expect your FX Loop signal to be blazingly hot. If you do it right and you're careful to run cables in the right order, it is possible to use the FX Loop and get virtually the same exact tone you get without the FX engaged.

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

What's TGP?

Hey if you know how to make the cables happen let me know

BTW has anyone talked me out of it so far?
The Framus straight does dark GnR sizzle AFD style on Ch2, the 6100 is killer, the 73 is not for sale.

If I sell the 6100 or Framus for a decent price I will cover the Bogner Shiva.

I was set on the Ecstasy but there is something so unrock n roll for my poor ass to have $3k amp with so many bells and whistles that I can't set it. I will play twice as much with a Shiva, only problem is how do I do high gain? hmmmmm

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

Tonight, I got a tone so evil and disgusting, it was a religious experience.
The LP w/Brobucker into the T. Rex Mudhoney, into the Bogner Ecstasy at full tilt gain. It sounded like a river of mud wiping out a city! LOL I'll put it this way, it'll make Adam Jones from Tool sound like a Squier strat into a Rockman!
hahahaha

The more I play with great tones, the more I'm confused about what music I really love. One minute, I'm happy with a tele, sounding like the Hellecasters, and the next minute, I feel like I should be playing modern metal, because I like both tones equally. The problem is it makes me wonder what tone should be 'my tone' because they're tones for opposite styles of music. Maybe I'm a country death metal guy! LOL Sometimes, I feel like John 5 must feel like, since he's a guy who loves country and blues, yet he finds himself in metal gigs.

Re: Anyone wanna talk me out of this?

mmmmm country death metal

hey I practice finger tapping a ton lately, and now my next project is slide in open tunings - meanwhile, I am another retro rocker in people's eyes.
