Or can anyone direct me to a forum which might have information Speaker Reconing?
Here's the deal- I recently had two speakers reconed by a famous Company who at present shall remain nameless. Suffice it to say it strats with a "W', ends with an 'R' , and has has three letters in between.
Anyway, I installed the two speakers and they both make horrible rattles as soon as any wound string is played with any significant bass response. The speakers in questions are vintage 60's Jensen C12N-'A's, which from my research I believe are virtually the same as the famous C12N's, however with more ribbing and damping for better bass handling.They are supposed to be rated at , like at least 25 , but more likely 40 watts and are said to be very stout speakers, so I am only running 35 watts tube ( Supro Amp) into them, they should not flub out and badly buzz and rattle- I'm nearly 100% certain a new Jensen C12N would not behave in this manner.
Well, I had a look see and what I found was that the speaker cone had been glued halfway up the voicecoil, if that is an accurate description. The following photos are pics of the way the cone is stock on an old torn C12N, vs. the way it was recently reconed. You will see that the stock speaker looks like any other speaker I've ever seen- I have never seen a speaker that has the cone attached in such a way to the 'voice coil'.;

Now here is a picture of a recone kit for this C12N-A speaker available now- it deosnt exactly look like the one used on my two Jensens- it IS ribbed, however it's hard to see in the picture, but there are more ribs);
The Company who rconed my Jensens is supposed to be reputable- you all have probably heard of them- they also make a famous line of speakers. Thye have agreed to take a look at the speakers and sent me a label to send them back, but IDK< ya know?
Any suggestions as to get some opinions on this recone that was done? Should I send this post out to some different speaker re-coners and see if they can give me some insight?
TIA, I appreciate any and all help on this matter.
