APH-1 Bridge...The Mouse That Roared!!!

Yesterday I installed an Alnico Pro II bridge in my Les Paul Studio and am blown away by it. Now, l am very familiar with this pickup, used it in the bridge of several double humbucking guitars including an LP before, but never heard it being this forceful and in your face. It is usually described as sweet, warm and buttery and that was my previous experience. In this guitar, it still has the sweet and smooth qualities but the mids have come alive, giving it an almost distorted blues harp-like roar. Bottom is also tighter than any vintage A2 pickup I have tried. I actually checked the bottom plate to make sure that it did not install my spare Custom by mistake!!!

I am very pleasantly surprised. I get all the openness of a vintage pickup with the force of a high output model - kind of like what we try to achieve with hybrids. It rocks!!!

Just wanted to share my experience with you guys. Does anybody else have a similar experience with APH-1?

I loved it as well. Nice and smooth. Cut when neeed, handled gain with ease and had a great singing quality. I sold it when I bough a jcm 800. Then I had the amp modded and wish i had the Alnico 2 pro back. I will get another one

Your description is right on the money. I have always liked it for the reasons you mentioned, but ended up choosing PG over it because PG is a bit edgier. Well, in this particular guitar, it has plenty of edge and attitude. I was geniunely surpised. That is why I decided to post about it. It must be the construction / materials / electronics of this guitar that gives it an in your face tone.
