APH-1B in the Neck Position?

Anyone tried this?

I have an APH1n for the neck position in one of my guitars, so I know exactly how sweet that pickup is. I was wondering how different the bridge version will be in the neck position. The increased output could even be a good thing, but not sure what to make to the lower resonance peak?

I bet that'd sound pretty cool. I was asking about the DiMarzio PAF last week, and it was suggested the 59 bridge model might be similar to a DMZ PAF in the neck - the A2P could do a similar job?

I think I'm going to do this in my LP. 57 classic in bridge and the aph-1b in the neck. If you guys think it's an alright idea I will go for it (I don't really have a choice)... How different will it be than the 57' in the neck that I'm used to?

Re: APH-1B in the Neck Position?

On my 3 pickup LP I tried the the APH1b int he middle position which sounds very similar to the neck position. it is now in the bridge position (where it will be staying), so I can give some idea of the sound. The APH-1b will get warmer and a bit smoother the closer to the neck it gets. It was a little to dark for my tastes hence why its in the bridge now (the 59 bridge in the middle is great though). Give it a try the worst case scenario is you don't like it and can remove it.

Re: APH-1B in the Neck Position?

will it be a mismatch power-wise? I don't want it to sound to weak compared to the 57 classic. when I had the 57 in the neck it sounded huge... I don't remember its output in the bridge position.

Re: APH-1B in the Neck Position?

honestly, I did try it. Honestly, you wouldn't notice that much of a difference. They both are smooth and warm, yet balanced and unmuddy. Maybe you'll hear a smidge more bass, but you might not notice much more than that.

Re: APH-1B in the Neck Position?

They are very close anyway.

One of my favorite LP neck humbuckers is a APH1b with A5. It takes some boomyness out of the neck position. The plain APB1n is too boring for me anyway.

Re: APH-1B in the Neck Position?

ok good deal... I don't know too much about humbucking pickups as they have so much dynamics. Strat pickups are easier for me to understand haha. For a point of reference I love Jimmy page's tone on bbc sessions and the albert hall performance... think I can get this with the aph-1b? or do I just need those fat 57s? I would prefer to just have two 57s but I need that 4 conductor for coil tap and already have the aph-1b
