APH2 set for Paul

I have been playing a Duncan Distortion in the bridge of my LP's for a few years now. I have always loved thier tone for harder rock, but I don't like the "dirty" sound I get on cleans.

I have been thinking of going with the Alnice Pro II set in my LP's since I like Slash's tone and everyone says they have great sustain.

I play through a Marshall DSL 100 Halfstack.

What should I expect from the APH2's over the Distortions?

Thanks

Re: APH2 set for Paul

I just put a pair of these in my JetKing. Its only been a couple hours, but I think these might become my favorites. Warm, yet clear. Not "too much" of anything. Nicely balanced.

However, they may sound completely different in my basswood body than in your Paul.

Re: APH2 set for Paul

Less highs, fatter, way better cleans? Anything else? Anyone? Great set for a fat classic Paul tone...

Re: APH2 set for Paul

those would probably sound fat in about anything would they? i dig slash's tone man! its that perfect swaggering jack daniels buzz sound...and i mean that in a totally appreciative way, lol

Re: APH2 set for Paul

Very open, very sweet, very balanced, great old school mids

you will have a lot less bottom

They are a tad dark on the top vs a 59, or the attitude the DD give you

I love the APH

Re: APH2 set for Paul

The neck was surprisingly clear to me. I expexted it to be a little muddy based on slash's tone but it was a great classic tone, very round and open. I liked it an am looking forward to having a guitar to put it in again.

The APH-1n is the cats meow!

Great tone as opposed to mud/compression. I have a set in my '94 LP Classic. I play hard rock/metal with them. Crank the amp gain up, and you'll love the clarity.

Re: APH2 set for Paul

There are a few sets you just can't miss with: Double 59's, PG's and A2P's Just depends if you want overall goodness, High end + sizzle, or Big fat smooth.

Re: APH2 set for Paul

OK, now here's a post I can get behind. I've used the Alnico II Pro set in a Les Paul set before, and now have an A2P neck PG bridge in another. I even use "old school" wiring like an RS vintage wiring or Mojo "Boutique" kit w/ foil and oil caps with trebble bleed / vol mod. : big fat LP tone with no apologies. Jimmy Page, Slash, and ... uhm .. Les Paul. Alnico II magnets with medium windings is going to get a Les Paul doing what it should.
