Hi Folks:
I have a question about the coils on the Apollo 67/70 Jazz Bass Pickups. Some have told me that each pickup has two separate coils that are in a line (end-to-end). I.e., the short axis of one coil butts up against the other:
(Coil 1) ------------- ------------- (Coil 2)
Others have told me that there are two separate coils, but they are side-by-side. I.e., the long axis of each coil is parallel to the other:
(Coil 1) -----------------------
(Coil 2) -----------------------
Can someone please clarify which is correct? Here's why I'm asking...
I have a 2003 MIM Fender Jazz V Standard, which now has an active preamp. A few days ago I purchased/installed a noiseless set from Aguilar (hum cancelling). It uses the coils that are end-to-end. However, since it is a 5-string, one coil is 1-pole larger than the other, so while they are significantly quieter than standard single coils, they do allow a slight amount of RF noise through.
So, I'm trying to find out if there is something different about the SD Apollos that would cancel out ALL hum. If so, I would consider returning the Aguilars (probably at a slight loss due to restocking fee for having installed them), and get the SD Apollos.
Please advise if you can help with this. Thanks.
