Apparently I bought an older Dimarzio DP103 model

I thought I bought a used 36th anniversary off Ebay, but apparently, I got an older DP103 model simply called PAF, which is quite a bit different. No air technology in this one. I e-mailed Dimarzio and they told me the that if the base plate is brass, it’s an older model PAF. Here's a picture:

Anyway, how does it compare to the newer model? I was looking for a neck companion for the Air Norton in my Sheraton II (made a thread about this a while ago). I hope it's clear and bright enough for my tastes.

What Jeremy said...it's a proven classic and many players still prefer them.

I say give it a try. You might really like it!

That is the DP103 that I love. Try it, I bet you're gonna love it. Great neck pickup, or bridge.

Re: Apparently I bought an older Dimarzio DP103 model

Those guys are a bit funny. They made a new pickup design using the part number of a discontinued product. I got the impression they did it deliberately so that people will buy them without realising the design has been changed. At least they were honest enough to explain it in their email.

Out of curiosity, how does the reg PAF compare to/differ from the 36th Anniv model?

Meh - standard DMZ PAF is all I ever need. Like people said - classic...
