In my never ending drama of building up the Franklin 15, the combo cab finally got here. Shipping error delayed its arrival until yesterday.

I've got a deep maroon faceplate, amber pilot light and I really think I'm going to stain it a medium darkish shade called Rosewood. Maybe sprinkle a dab of rosewood oil on it just for smells! :)

I tested the rosewood stain and rubbed in, it looks pretty good. On the darkish side of things. I also bought some light oak, but it looks baby crap yellow. I've got a nice fat brown leather handle for it, white stiching. Creamish/whitish piping on a really cool looking grillclothe, kinda has a cane weave look to it, but it's actual cloth. Cool stuff.

Cream chickenhead knobs rounds out the look.

Now the nervous part.... drilling the holes for mounting the chassis! :scared: The chassis doesn't have wings, so I'm going to have to get some posterboard or something and make a template. Still a bit nerve wracking.

Well, I'm cheating a bit. A friend of mine used this minwax stain/gel/all in one stuff on a piece of furniture and it looked like he'd handrubbed the thing for a week. Not too blazingly difficuilt. They have a clear coat I can apply when I get the color right. It ought to hold up pretty well, his desk has. Just beautiful.

Yeah,The Minwax stuff is pretty good. It should hold up pretty good.
That's the age old question with Amps... Is it Furniture or is it Luggage ?? :laugh2: I geuss it's a lil' of both?

Yeah, good point. This one should be pretty sturdy, I'm putting black anodized metal corners around the bottom. I don't think on the top though. I want it to look nice, show some example of a stained wood option.

I've also got a more traditional Matchless looking tolex head coming my way. It's good to offer both options. Jeff Swanson does really fine work. His dovetails are just flawless.

Oolala, it looks f-ing amazing to me. The wood absorbed the stain weird in a couple of small spots, but I'm learning my lesson. This amp is mine so I'm not as worried about the finish. Next time I'll do better or next time, I'll pay Jeff Swanson to do it for me! :)

Labor of love.

The small face wood piece that frames the bottom of the chassis and is above the grill cloth, is a piece of maple of something. It took the stain a lot better/darker than the rest of the amp. Nice contrast. I might even put one more coat and make that little piece darker still.

Once I get this done, get pics out, I'll get that 30 watt version up and running. Most of the parts are here and I'm home all this week. :)

I'm sorry to ask this, since I still am kinda new to the board and have to get into things.. But all this talk about your amps (Scott_F) made me interested in them, and it then made me wonder, can you tell us what your amps are capable of? To make sure you understand my question right - What kind of styles/genres would your amps be able to handle, gain wise etc. ?
