APS-1 vs Texas Hots

Re: APS-1 vs Texas Hots

How would they compare with each other?

Don't have much in common. The APS1 is actually very close to the SSL1, just a bit fuller. The Ant2 (Surfer) is somewhere in there, too, just a bit more refined.

The Ant1 is noticeably rounder and softer than the others. The other three are really in one corner and this one in an entirely different corner.

YMMV.

Thanks for your input. A lot of people seem to the think the Surfers are the bees knees around here. Do those use the A2 magnets also?

The Surfers are A5 and have more of a stinging quality to them than the others mentioned.

They are all great pups. The Ants are softer sounding due to the weakened mags etc.

The APS' don't quack like the SSLs or the Surfers.

Re: APS-1 vs Texas Hots

Cool, I think I may be leaning to the Surfers now. They are more of a early to mid sixties style pup, correct? I am looking for something for my 50's Road Worn, are the Surfers too far off of a 50's vibe? I am trying to stay in that general area.

Re: APS-1 vs Texas Hots

I have APS1's in one of my strats, and the Surfers in the other one.
They are both perfect in their own guitars.
The APS1's are in an overly bright guitar and they tame that beast nicely without sacrificing a nice strat tone.
However the surfers in my AM DLX is what I always envisioned a good strat should sound like.
I've never played the Texas Hots so I won't speak about those.
