APS-2 what fretboard radius is it for?

tone

Hi guys.
APS-2 description says its for modern flatter radiused fretboards. Anyone got specific numbers? I was going to use a warmoth vintage modern strat neck that has a 10-16" compound radius. Would it be a better idea to use the APS-2 or APS-1's?

Thanks!:smokin:

16" at the heel is fairly flat as guitar necks go. In that case I would use the APS-2. APS-1s would be better suited for a vintage radius in the 10" and under range, IMO.

I have never gotten an answer on what radius is a good point to make the switch form staggered to flat poles...FWIW, I use staggered strat pickups no matter what the radius...

From what you are describing, I'd say to use the flat poled APS-2 for the Warmoth compound radius.

What I notice about the diff in tone is that the raised and staggered vintage style poles (as in the APS-1 or SSL-1) have a slightly brighter, glassier and more vintage tone because the poles, especially the middle poles, will be closer to the underside of the strings and the bobbins will be further away and that, IMO, results in a brighter tone.

It seems to me that single coil pickups with flat poles sound just a little warmer and more midrangey...perhaps because the flat poles allow for the entire pickup, including the bobbin itself, to be moved closer to the strings.
