Are all CTS pots the same??

I'm needing an 500k tone pot and all I can find is 500k audio taper pots. So, are volume and tone pots the same or is there a difference between them.

that will work fine.

volume and tone pots are the same thing but there are different tapers available, audio and linear being the most common. some people prefer one over the other, usually audio for volume controls but for a tone control either will usually work fine.

OK, let me make sure I understand.

A 500k audio taper pot can be used as both a volume or a tone pot, correct?
