Are Duncans still potted using wax?

Re: Are Duncans still potted using wax?

Epoxy potting is used mostly on actives. Although Bill Lawrence, EMG select, PJ Marxx and Ultrasonic pickups are epoxy potted and passive. I don't know of a passive SD that is epoxy potted.

Yes that thread is completely false and I fixed it. Please chime in over there if you have the time or energy. Lots of misinformation on that one...

Re: Are Duncans still potted using wax?

The article is false. However there is nothing wrong with epoxy potting.

Re: Are Duncans still potted using wax?

Well, the only problem I forsee with epoxy is if you wanted to deconstruct the pickup...it's impossible with an epoxy potting. Wax, however, lends itself easier to repairs and whatnot. But once you epxoy pot the pickup, it's impervious to pretty much everything. But you can't really do anything else to it, you know?

Re: Are Duncans still potted using wax?

I have lot of coils in my Duncans that look like that. I always thought it's some kind of lacquer.

Re: Are Duncans still potted using wax?

The reason why I like epoxy potted pickups is because they are nearly indestructible and if done correctly they have very good feedback rejection. I also like the tone of the pickups, although a little on the bright side they are clear and they have a pretty good frequency range.

No Problemo.

I didn't believe it, but wanted to at least let others comment about it.
