Are Floyd's worth the money and effort.

Re: Are Floyd's worth the money and effort.

i seem to remember strings lasting ages on my LFR guitar as well, having the string clamped at less of an angle gives you longer life than stuff like strat trems (sharp 90 degree turn)

also, theres fewer sharp edges around to give a 'fulcrum' on a floyd rose...

Re: Are Floyd's worth the money and effort.

I have a floyd on my Ibanez and I blocked it as I don't use it, suits me much better, I can change tuning and bend strings without worrying about going out of tune.

Like the rest say, if you are gonna abuse the trem, get a floyd.

I cant see why floyd guitars have worse tone?
Sustain wouldn't be an issue, cause only fags/pros have floating bridges. My wolfie sustains very well.
If you wanna change tuning, change guitars.
If the floyd isnt floating, the hand on bridge isn't an issue.

The worst Issues I see are:

- When you break a string on stage, may as well change guitars cause it throws the pitch of all the strings out even if it isnt floating (unless if your trem is so damn tight that u cant even use your trem bar).
- Changing strings is a bitch, also stretching them in.

PROS

- As long as you have fresh strings on (that are all stretched in) you'll be as sound as a pound till your next change/breakage

I think that when people say things like "This guitar sounds thin because of the Floyd". That trem isn't set up right, isn't a good one (get a Schaller or OFR, please), or it's mounted on something like an RG or S series, which are naturally bright, due to their thin necks and thin bodies (compared to strats and Pauls).

BTW, I set up my Wilkinson to full float, and I'm not a fag or a pro, at least, last time I checked. :smack:

Like I said, a good OFR will have minimal impact on the tone but it will still have an impact. I don't have any problems getting nice smooth deep bass tones out of my Floyd-equipped Strat. Everythings a compromise, you know.

You sound like a salesman.

Kahler makes a good Floyd as well. It's a tad bassier, with out as much top end in my opinion, which could be good or bad, depending on what sound you're after.

Hey, if it's good enough for Kerry King.....

I will agree that there's plenty of sh*tty Floyd copies, but not all of them are bad.

It could be that some of use know how to use them....

I wasn't meanin to bash the floating bridge, I was going to have a ;) at the end of that sentence, so obviously the sarcasm in my comment wasn't shown.

Re: Are Floyd's worth the money and effort.

I prefer not to use any form of tremolo. I barely if not at all use my fender trem let alone a floyd rose! I'd rather have a regular bridge. Ive tried one once and i didnt really like it either. But if your into 80's metal i guess having one might be essential?

Well i used to be one... ;)

Oh yeah I'm definitely not a fag last time i checked... so i must be a real pro who knows how to set up and USE his fully floating Floyd. :fing25:
