Re: are gibson sg standards neck heavy? im sorry i know is a stupid question!
Moving the upper strap button location from the behind the neck...to the upper horn like Tony Iommi helps.
I have the set neck Epi Iommi. The Epi Iommi G-400 is not identical in shape to a Gibson SG. Just a little natural forearm pressure keeps the neck where it needs to be so well, this is a non-issue for me. I posted this same question previously, and there are "search" results in this site's history that may shed more light on this issue. I remember reading one poster mentioning good balance with a Maestro vibrato setup, but I don't really know.
The sound of the SG-style body is sooo unique, and beautiful in its raucous fury, I would consider getting one and stuff the control cavity with lead (or milling a cavity in the rear and filling it with lead and epoxy, covering it with a plastic plate) if the strap button relocation did not perform well enough to my liking.
