Are JCM900 cabs any good?

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

well i stopped by an ez pawn earlier today and they had a marshall jcm900
4x12 cab in great condition for $200 bucks! im planning on getting a jcm800 2203/2204 on december so im tempted to get this cab for it cheap! are they any good ?
yes, if you like the tone... most people do.

are all marshalls 1960 cabs the same ? whats the difference between the jcm800, jcm900, jcm2000 cabs? thanks in advance!
THe Differences are that the 800 series are pure mono cabs and the 900 /2000 cabs have the switchable stereo / mono input cup. Some say the Cup "sucks tone", but I´ve never A/Bd them.

Otherwise they´re the exact same cabinet AFAIK.

Lol.

You are not going to Køge in the future or what Niels?

That where the JCM800 cab is at.

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

Buy it ASAP, because someone else will if you don't.

The 900's are the same as the 800's, only they have a stereo jack plate.
The G75T's aren't bad, although they're voiced for crunchy metal tones. A zillion metal bands used that speaker. Personally, I think those cabs sound really good with a crisscross of Vintage 30's/G75T's.

If I were you, I'd bring a drill with you to the pawnshop, and tell them you'll buy the cab if you can unscrew the back panel and make sure it has Celestions in it. Anytime you're dealing with pawnshops or druggie musicians, it's a good idea to check that stuff, because there's always the chance they loaded it with junky hi fi speakers or something.

Amen to that! That's some of the most sound and intelligent advice a person can give about speaker cabinets, especially high end ones like Marshall 1960a's!

Do as Gearjoneser says. There is everything in there you need to know about it. Go get the cab!

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

That's a killer deal. I saw a JCM800 1960A cab for $250 CAN last week. Had I not minded lugging that weight up a flight of stairs every week, I would have grabbed it.

A week before I got a JCM900 2x12 (1936?... It's not handy to check) for $300 in like new condition. The current version sells for $850CAN ($1000 after taxes) when new in my area. I made a deal, my 1x12 Traynor cab plus $50.

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

If that 800 cab had 65's in it you should have grabbed it regardless. It's almost comical what some guys are trying to get out of them now.

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

I owned a 900 cab with 75s. It sounded too boomy for my liking.

A little hard to explain, let's just say that personally I didn't find the tone that musical in comparison to other cabinets I have owned.

I miss my marshall 1965 cab. wonderful!

Re: Are JCM900 cabs any good?

Check your calendars guys, this is a 10 year old thread, the cab in question has been bought and sold 4 times by now.
