Are pickup covers the final frontier?

I've noticed many more models that come with elaborate covers these days. From SD and Dimarzio.

If you think about it, exposed pickups are "ugly", but for whatever reason, they look "right" to me. Thats probably only because its what I'm used to. I imagine that newer players will increasingly gravitate to pickups with aesthetically pleasing covers.

Well, there will always be room for new sounds from pickups, and who knows, maybe some new form-factors, too.

Top-L,

I don't know if my view is popular or just a niche, but I for one like the modern elaborate cover designs and I would like to see more offerings like that.

Yeah, everyone is trying to differentiate themselves but I suppose its all down to the look you are going for.

You see this with pedal companies too; some of these smaller independent's have some wild looks and names for their stompboxes.
