Are SD and DM watching each other?

Re: Are SD and DM watching each other?

Welcome to the forum, Zhaggy. For us to mold the parallel axis bobbins in white would require us to run a minimum number of bobbins. Most injection molds don't even warm up until they've gone through several hundred and maybe more than a thousand shots. Yours was the first call for that product we've ever received. We weren't going to run hundreds or perhaps thousands of bobbins just for a one piece order, or even a 20 piece order. And we wouldn't do it if Slash or EVH asked for it either. If Gibson or Fender asked for it because they were going to use it on a new model and they guaranteed us a certain amount of pickups over the first year, we would consider it.

It's not about who you are, it's a business decision that has to do with recouping tooling costs.

And I'll assume, because of differences in language and culture that your comment about Seymour's mother was not intended to be as offensive as it came off.

Hopefully that ends this hijack.

Sorry, sorry, sorry! I knew right after I posted the comment about Seymour's mother that it was inappropriate and I'm deeply sorry for that. It was not at all my intention to offend anyone, especially Seymour or his mother. It was meant just as a metaphor. I have deep respect for what Seymour has done with his company and his pickups are awesome.

Thank you for clearing this up. It's just that when MJ responded to my request it was: "No, we can't do that." Nothing more. It kind of let me wondering. All this needed was some who knows about this stuff to clear it up. It's done now.

Too bad, it's never been asked before. They are very cool looking and sounding pickups and they would look cool in white.

Thank you and sorry, again.

Re: Are SD and DM watching each other?

Which is the last pup that Seymour made, apart of the antiquites, and what year?Could anyone know if there are thoughts about launching something new?
It seems that the commercial opponennt(DM) offers a wider tonal range with his products...
Now,in case I'm right with this detection,I'd be very interesting to know whether this is a conscious choice due to musical criteria or something that involves marketing and stuff...
Not complaining,just...imagin a Liquifire enriched with the Seymour 'air'!

They just released the Zephyr pickups.

Those cost a lot. I mean they probably sound awesome but for the price of 2 hums which is 1200 dollars I could get one good guitar or more than 12 normal SD pickups or 7 Custom Shop pickups. So I wonder who'a got the money to buy those.

If I had the money I certainly buy those:)

Re: Are SD and DM watching each other?

DiMarzio makes great pickups and does some things very well. They are geared a little bit more to the players with tighter budgets than Duncan though. Every business has their strengths and things that they do very well.

FWIW, Duncan innovates all the time... DiMarzio doesn't have anything near a triple shot ring or a liberator. The active pickups that Duncan makes have absolutely no analogue in DiMarzio's line. DiMarzio doesn't have a custom shop. The Antiquity lines have no comparable either... DiMarzio's 35th anniversary PAF is a totally new design and Duncan's 35th anniversary models are actual retro made just like the originals.

DiMarzio watches Duncan as far as I can tell, defintely not the other way around IMHO.
