Are there any "high-gain" piezo pickups out there??

I was just playing my Acoustic distorted over my amp, and it sounded absolutely collossal.

The only thing that bothered me: Not enough gain, internal preamp was already dimed, and a boost pedal would likely also boost noise into unusable levels, as well as compromising the clean tone a bit...

Currently it has the stock Charvel piezo under the saddle (Think "Typical MId-range Import").... are there "louder" ones from say Fishman or Baggs? or are they all generally the same?

I think I could actually start using these things as my main live axes... IF I can get more loud without more noise ;)

Interesting question. I wonder if two piezo's, in series or parallel would accomplish this. Can you even connect piezo's that way?

Fishman's Powerchip preamp has quite a punch, enough to clip my Bassman, in fact.

How about an 18v mod to your axe? Would that increase the output of your system?

Probably not, it would likely only increase headroom, or possibly fry the preamp....

Hmmm.... 2 piezos in series would theoretically work to double the output, but I fear phase cancellation issues... but I think I may even have a second one lying aroud somewhere from an old axe....

HMMMM....

Any other ideas?

Do you have a gain trimpot inside the preamp? My Fishman and Shadow pre's do. They are on the circuit board. If it does, maxing it out might give you a few more db's. :burnout:
