What are IYO the heaviest-sounding PAF-types?

if you like the openness of a low output wind,
a tight attack and feel,
the bright highend,
a relaxed bass but tight and deep,
have a rather thick sounding guitar that doesn't need thickening,
intend to use it with high gain,
YOU MUST TRY THE
SH12 SCREAMING DEMON.
Its about the same output as a 59B, but with high gain, it does everything better unless you have a thin sounding guitar.

no real risk with getting the demon, if you don't like it, i bet it's a neck PU you dig.

If you like a lot of preamp gain, you won't find a lot of difference in the feel and response of something like a 59 and a Hybrid. The EQ will be different with PAF-types, but the pickups will respond about the same above a certain gain level. So I say, pick the EQ range your guitar needs.

Have to disagree with you there, Even with preamp gain how hard you hit the input has a huge effect on saturation, bass response and compression. For example if you want a really tight snare like chug you need a pickup with a bit of push so the preamp compresses a bit but not so much that it gets flubby.

Yes, but you are talking about different degrees of compression there. I was comparing going into a clean amp.

I’m super impressed with the Fishman Strat pickups, so I will be giving the Classics a shot.

Strangely enough, I love a single coil with the tone rolled off slightly for metal. It loses the squelch, but keeps the really focused attack.
I'd love to try the Greg Koch sets. Either the Tele or P90 set. But I don't have any guitar routed for P90's and my Esquire is only routed for one pickup, so I'd waste the neck pickup.

But yeah, if you get the Classics, make sure you can toggle the HF tilt. They can get BRIGHT.

no screwdriver and a hammer laying around???

Quote redd Voelkert about his Esquire:
"it had just one pickup in the bridge, and i put a Charlie Christian in the neck. I did that when i was about fifteen. i cleaned it up a bit since then, but when I first did it, being a genius at fifteen, i had a screwdriver and a hammer, so i cut the hole in the body for the pickup" :)

Yeah... but what if I want a Tele bridge pickup and something else in the neck? I don't think Tele neck pickups are all that magic, personally. I'd love to have a Classic Neck or a Greg Koch P90 in the neck... but then that would still mean wasted pickups, LOL.

I'm honestly considering ordering a set of WLH's to give them a try again.

Would you guys say those are Duncan's highest output PAF-types?

I'd love to Custom Floor order them without a logo and with black nickel poles, LOL.

wlh are great pups. i absolutely LOVE the neck pup and really like the bridge pup. its got a great upper mid presence that cuts through a mix really well. not harsh or overly trebly at all
