Are there any Multi effects pedals that suit my needs?

Hi , just bought a laney lc15 for a real good price but as i play a lot of metal would like to get a decent overdrive or distortion pedal for it. however i also think i would make use of delay, reverb, compressor, noise gate and eq.

are there any multi fx pedals out there that do everything i have mentioned quite well?

to buy decent single pedals for all my needs would cost too much i think. my budget is around £120 - £150, thanks

Get a good dirt pedal and then later you can add in delay/reb/comp/eq. Build your tone brick by brick and don't bother cutting corners for instant gratification.

It's like asking small children if they want a piece of chocolate now or the whole bar later, we all know which one is better and yet most of them pick the piece now.

No there are not, units like the Boss GT-8 aren't bad for multi fx (though the OD/Dist still sucks) but they are around $400 on the used market still.

Any of the cheap stuff like the Digitech RP series is simply garbage. Don't waste your time/money on them


I'd suggest buying yourself a really nice OD/Dist pedal to start off with and then as you can afford it, add other effects.

Down the road when you've got a nice board with all top quality effects you'll be glad you went quality of quantity

def get a distortion & compressor pedal first, and later a delay pedal for playing metal.

For multi-effects, I prefer Boss and the DigiTech GNX series.

In your position, I would prefer to get individual stomp boxes. The effects you listed are not too numerous, but it could get expensive if you go this route. But this way you get to build a more focused and unique effect chain. With more advanced multi-effects, some time is necessary to learn how to program and optimise everything.

The cool thing with multi-effect units is that once you get a grasp on optimzing your sound with it, it just be comes a normal and easy process. Other cool features would be having patches memorized for quick access. Also, although you listed only 6 effects, you would have numerous other effects to integrated into your patches, even if you decide not to use them at first.
