Tomorrow i will be buying an Ibanez 350m with an Invader pup for $190, but the pics the guy sent me are concerning. The guitar looked good from far away but then up close RUST o rama, should i cancel the buy or will these pups still sound decent? I heard rust is good in some cases, but is this too much of it? Need opinions quick thanx!! :scratchch

Re: Are these pups still functional?

The only way to really be sure is to plug it in... If the pups got wet from like beer being poured on them they might be toast... if its just surface rust its nothign to worry about but its nothing you can tell until the guitar is in hand.

Re: Are these pups still functional?

Man it will be fine. Chris rea's red strat was floating in a basement and it came out better sounding.:oh:

Re: Are these pups still functional?

It should be all right as long as functionality is concerned. The polepieces are not in direct contact with copper wires. I suppose the owner have sweaty hands.
But then again, you don't really know until you plug it in.

Re: Are these pups still functional?

My hands rust pickups like that after a couple years of regular play. They work fine, just look like crap. I'd be more concerned about the bridge . . . those little intonation bits can get rusted together and stuck if you don't regularly drop some light oil on it.

Re: Are these pups still functional?

Play it. If all the pickups work, just change the hex bolts if you don't like the rust.

Re: Are these pups still functional?

It means that the owner never wiped down the guitar. Never. I would have maintenance concerns. See if you could replace the pole pieces, and look carefully at the condition of the bridge/tremolo. It all might be ok. You need to know exactly what you are getting though.

Buy the guitar, don't buy the guitar for the pickup. For the price, I would walk. You can find something else used for the same or better, and then drop a another SD into it if you want.

^^^^What he said!^^^^ Or, if you like a little rust try a dermal? You'll be able to polish off most of it off & you should be able to keep some of that old beat up Relic look, I kind of like it the way it is, but it's your axe & that's a pretty good deal so I def. would not cancel the order??? You could replace the pole screws for next to nothing, you may even be able to get what you need from a hardware store, although you might need to get the Invader poles from Duncan? My buddy lost one of his big old hex bolts from his Invader that came in his Sinister Gates Sketcher, Duncan just sent him a whole new set for free!
