Are these Seymour Duncan pickups?

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan pickups?

I have never seen a Duncan with a bare baseplate.

That sticker appears to be a fairly recent one from Duncan, though it looks like a corner is coming up.

Braided wire looks to be good.

Is there something you don't like about it?

Looks like someone possibly made their own sticker to me but the Picture doesn't show enough of the rest of the pickup to tell.

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan pickups?

Well, the sticker, conductor, & legs are like a 59. It could be an OEM model with a plain baseplate, I suppose. It would seem like a lot of work to fake a fairly inexpensive item and not do it properly.

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan pickups?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I wonder what they could have been OEM for, as I previously stated, wiring harness looked untouched, and as an amp tech that looks at original (and not so original) solder work all the time I'm at a loss. Could be a replacement wiring harness I guess, but its the correct Pots and caps that Gibson use for their Reissues.

Either way there are nicely aged nickel covers on them and I'm sure someone else will enjoy them. Just not my cup-O-tea, always found '59's a little dark and sterile sounding. Not much tops the SD Bonamassas in my R8, but I have a real nice pair of custom P.A.F. pickups by J.S. Moore out of the Toronto area. That's whats going in. Just bummed about a lower resale over some Burstbuckers.

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan pickups?

Well, I have no info that they are indeed OEM, I have seen OEM baseplates that are different than ones you buy on aftermarket pickups. It would just seem like an odd thing to copy a '59, as they can be found everywhere for not a ton of money. What is the DCR on them?

Well, that is just about right. The neck is a little off, but just a little.

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan pickups?

Thats not surprising to me. Ten years ago i broke off a leg on a JB and MJ sent me a logo'd long legged baseplate and short legged plain one i still have.

Forgot to update, I contacted SD directly. They told me they are indeed a ‘59 set. Realistically, what could I sell these pickups for?

Well, they look to be nickel covered. A new set of nickel covered on Reverb is $198, the lowest that a quick search yielded. On the Duncan site, with a nickel cover, $99 each, so $198 is full retail. If they are in great shape, not too scratched up with full leads I would say $140ish, maybe a bit more. The shorter the lead and the worse the condition you can go down from there.

I honestly haven't seen a full set for sale here for a while. When I took the BB 1&2 out of my R7, I was disappointed to find that Gibson had cut the leads to the exact length needed to reach the pots, with no slack left.

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan pickups?

I'd consider $100 for the pair. Being that's what I would be willing to spend if I could.

A set of covered '59's is $100 max. The last set I bought was here and I paid $75.

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan pickups?

Ok, there we have it. I estimated too high. These guys know.

This would be my guess. Even with the plain baseplate. The market has a lot of used 59 sets in it right now (even though it is a great pickup).

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan pickups?

I paid $130 for a nickel covered WLH set about a year ago. 59s are a lot easier to find, so I wouldn't pay more than $100-110 for a set even with covers.
