Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?
Live playing is what I love to do, mostly because it's loud and pretty much a party atmosphere. I'm learning to like the studio, but I don't like being in the position of player, engineer, producer, mixer, problem technician. When I'm just the player, and others are doing the recording work, I feel better, but I'm not allowed to be the anal MF I am. I usually try to make one of the first takes the keeper, and even prefer to do a long pass rather than punching. If I let myself, I could drive myself and engineers crazy, because I have an ear that hears the smallest nuances. I swear, I'll play one phrase 450 times till 4:00 in the morning if it bugs me. Of course, you can't do that on the clock, or live, so that's why I'm just starting to enjoy home recording. I'm learning to let some things sit as they are.....and to NOT record too many layers.
