Are you happy with your amp(s) or are you always on the lookout for something better?

Just curious where you all stand with your current amp(s). Having said that, are you happy with what you have or are you always looking for something better? For me I'm pretty happy with what I have, although, I find myself keeping up on the latest gear and such just for kicks. Where do you guys stand with this?

year and a half after getting rid of my wonderful DRRI (JJ's, Mercury magnetics OT, Weber copper cap), I absolutely love my acoustic B200H bass amp.

Much of my satisfaction has to do with having normal expectations of my amp. I don't sit down to practice expecting my amp to induce a tone erection and provide as primary inspiration for my playing like I used to. I used to chase tones, modify things, compare, constant GAS and jonesing, until I started hanging out with players who stuck by their polytones and other SS amps, got incredible tones, and played more gigs than those who were tone freaks like me.

I play decent guitars out of a Fender Super Champ XD.
I am always looking for something new, but can not justify it.
For the price, portability and sound it's worth is beyond it's price tag IMO.

Quencho, are you using the Acoustic B200H bass amp with your six string guitar? That's cool. . .what speakers are you using? I like a deep full tone and that might work for my guitar. .

yeh. i like my work horses. Princeton II for most stuff. Twin for when i need more headroom.

Re: Are you happy with your amp(s) or are you always on the lookout for something bet

That's some food for thought... my amp "needs" haven't changed for about 10 years, but I don't think I've ever had an amp that fits them (particularly for cleans). For example, my HR Deville didn't have enough clean headroom, after that I thought I could get the cleans I wanted from a JVM (no dice), and the situation got a little better with my Sig:X. Now I'm having a custom Fargen amp being built as we speak (fender-y clean channel, jcm 800-ish dirty channel). But I still can't help but wonder what would have happened if I ponied up a little more for a twin reverb back when I bought my deville...

Until I got my current rig together, I was always on the look out for how to improve my sound.

Now, I'm pretty damn happy with my tone and my rig. Although I would like to get rid of the G12T-75s in my 412 cab and replace them with something like a V30 or a CL80. (it currently has G12-65s and G12T-75s in an X pattern). I've heard it's a very rich, complex sounding mix of speakers.

I still love my Blackstar w/Marshall cab (put in two WGS Retro 30s and I'm alot happier now). I do enjoy looking at other amps still just to know what's out there and hear what other options are available.

Re: Are you happy with your amp(s) or are you always on the lookout for something bet

Happy, yes ... but just because I'm happy doesn't mean I don't see room for improvement.

Re: Are you happy with your amp(s) or are you always on the lookout for something bet

I'm very happy with my Cube 60. It could be much better for sure.

I've looked at alternatives like the Laney Lionheart and other low-wattage tube heads,
but my mind is pretty much set on getting a Bogner Shiva eventually,
so I don't see the point of stopping in between.

I'll just save, save and save. So I'm not really "on the lookout" as much as really decided on what my next step is going to be.
But yeah, I'm happy with my amp.

Yep. Satisfied.

Re: Are you happy with your amp(s) or are you always on the lookout for something bet

Both.

I'm happy with my amps. But always on the lookout. Amp addiction is like guitar addiction...you can't have too many.

Very happy with my Valvetech Hayseed 30. Gives me exactly what I need right now. But I will have a nice 6L6 amp in the future.

Re: Are you happy with your amp(s) or are you always on the lookout for something bet

I'm happy enough.

But always want something better. :D

Re: Are you happy with your amp(s) or are you always on the lookout for something bet

I've always been a big amp guy... not much into buying tons of guitars... I just like different flavors of amps.

I recently sold all my good amps and am rocking a peavey rage 258. Getting some good sounds but obviously am looking for something better. I'm looking for an amp that will keep me satisfied for a few years.

I am pretty happy with mine ...

5e3 Richter
Bassman LTD
Gretsch 6150
AC15C1
Tweaker Head
Killer Ant

Others ... I like each of them for various things.

I'm pretty satisfied with my amps. Usually, for me, if I'm not getting the tone that I want/need, I switch guitars. For band stuff, I take a LP and a Tele. If one of them doesn't have it, the other usually does.

Re: Are you happy with your amp(s) or are you always on the lookout for something bet

I am happy with my amps, but I'd love a few more.

I am in this camp also. I have 6 amps now, use 2 of them for gigging, 1 of them for practicing and the others are just backups, really.

Re: Are you happy with your amp(s) or are you always on the lookout for something bet

I'm actually very surprised that I'm happy.

I use to play large Mesa amps. Now, I play a Blues Jr. I don't think I want to go back.

It's quite strange. Odd even. But I'm happy.
