Argh my Jazz neck is really a Jazz Bridge

I'm putting together a LP Studio and I just discovered the Jazz I had slated for the neck is really a bridge pickup based on the pole positions. That's going to be too much for the original Dimarzio DP103 PAF I have for the bridge. I'm looking for a nice vintage tone. Any suggestions for the neck? I do like the sweet sounds of the Jazz and maybe I just need to pick up the neck version. The bridge data I found was 7.65k 203mV.

Did you measure the pickup? There is a .2k difference between my Jazz neck and Jazz bridge. I'd just install it.

And as every guitar requires height adjustments to pickups anyhow for best balance....specific to the very instrument in question every time.....you could well find the bridge model works fine - or indeed better than the neck.
Only 1 way to find out though.

I used to run a 8.6k PGb in the neck of my Les Paul with a 8.5k PG+ in the bridge. They balanced well and sounded good together. I say you install the Jazz bridge in the neck and try it out.

That's a fairly low output for a bridge pickup. Just install it in the neck and see if you like it.

Yeah, I'd say that this is an instance where they are almost identical, so just go for it.

In some cases, a 24 fretter for example, I find the bridge model of certain pickups better in the neck than the neck model.

What do you mean by pole positions...pole spacing? Are there any markings or labels on the underside of the pickup? Do the mounting tabs have just one screw hole each or are there three holes on each tab?

Beyond all that, the suggestions here are spot on. You might really like it in the neck position, regardless of whether or not it is a "bridge" model, even with a DP103 in the bridge. The pickups are all in the same ballpark. How you adjust them will largely determine how well they balance out.

Besides, the DP103 is the neck position 36th Anny. The DP223 is the bridge model.

Probably by which side is slugs and which is screws? Compared to the logo.

i have the jazz bridge in the neck of a les paul custom and it sounds great. give it a try before dismissing it outright!

Doesn't have to be this way but I'm just trying to keep it in the typical arrangement of:

South (adj)
> Neck
North (slug)

North (slug)
> Bridge
South (adj)

Thanks everyone. I slapped the bridge jazz in another guitar that had a neck jazz and bridge JB, so now that guitar has a jazz bridge and a JB. I then put the neck jazz in with the DP103. Now I'm just trying to get enough layers of lacquer over the headstock decals so I can sand it down flat, install tuning keys and give it a whirl. Finish work takes soooo much patience which I've never had enough of.

Modern pickups mid 90s -todays production.
Jazz neck is 7.15-7.20k @21c
Jazz bridge is 8.1-8.2k @21c

Modern pickups mid 90s -todays production.
Jazz neck is 7.15-7.20k @21c
Jazz bridge is 8.1-8.2k @21c

I measured 7.65k and 8.45k with an un-calibrated meter in an uncontrolled environment.

My MJ-era Bridge is 7.2 , my old neck is 7.0 (same meter & time.)

I don’t remember the exact numbers, but the PAFs in my SG/LP measure higher in the neck. Sounds fine.
