I had traded for this guitar years ago and somebody was ashamed to own a Japanese guitar evidently. The deal I made was too good to let slide so I decided to get this guitar. I had removed the bridge volume and tone pots and replaced with two 3 way (on/off/on) switches. I then removed the pickup selector switch and the neck tone pot, widened the hole and moved the pickup selector switch in it's place. I also widened the hole where the pickup selector used to be and installed a screen (similar to a Dobro screen) I replaced the bridge, stop tailpiece (from my 2012 Gibson Les Paul Supreme) and the brass studs from a former stop tailpiece purchase, a set of Seymour Duncan PRails and Schaller straplocks and this thing rocks.

Ever seen a Dobro? If you look at where the pickup selector used to be, there is a screen. Allows a sound hole but keeps out debris. So the former pickup selector position is now a sound hole, like an acoustic guitar, or a F-hole to allow sound waves to escape from within the guitar.

I don't even know where to start with this ...

Yeah, I don't think it would work like that. Wouldn't the empty space inside of the guitar need to be bigger to work as an f-hole? I don't think that the space provided can do much.

My two cents.

When I place my ear above the screen and pluck the strings, I can hear sound clearly pushing through the now empty space within screen. Simply Physics my friends.

Putting aside the fact that sound comes out of every part of the guitar when you pluck the strings, what do you figure this is accomplishing on an electric guitar?

What it does or doesn't do is not too damn important to me, but to answer your question, it makes the guitar slightly more open or airy. Unplugged is now louder acoustically and seems to sound excellent in the mode it is now played as.

Tell the truth

It was you who took the wood burner to the headstock, wasn't it?

Re: Aria Pro II Lawsuit Guitar Modded Beyond Anything Resembling Standard............

No, I actually traded a BC Rich Gunslinger that I had customized for this guitar so that I would not be afraid to do any type of science project for the benefit of tone. I am always trying things and experimenting with tone. If the headstock were left alone, I would have been less apt to do the extreme modifications I made.

Neat.

Have a good weekend!

I just figured the kind of guy who would think that putting an aerator from a kitchen faucet in the top of his Les Paul would have an appreciative affect on tone might also take a wood burner to the headstock.

Thanks for sharing!

Those are Chinese characters/writing that my daughter was practicing when she was a small child. I just keep them there as a fond memory of a time gone by.

Not an aerator, an electronic screen for a cooling vent used as a debris eliminator if you will.

Re: Aria Pro II Lawsuit Guitar Modded Beyond Anything Resembling Standard............

The faucet aerator hole will have about as much affect on tone (actually, probably less than) as the unplugged hole next to the vol pot.

The great tone you are experiencing is, pure and simple, only a result of the P-Rails. Nothing else.

But do whatever you want to your own guitars and enjoy whatever you perceive to be your tone. To each his own.

Re: Aria Pro II Lawsuit Guitar Modded Beyond Anything Resembling Standard............

By the way...

I'd rock that guitar. But first I'd rotate that bridge P-Rail so the Rail coil is closer to the bridge, and I'd put an A8 next to the rail and a UOA5 next to the P-90. And my preference would be Triple Shots rather than mini switches.

I use solid bodies and chambered bodies in my guitar builds and they are absolutely different. Just as a solid body Telecaster is way different than a Thinline. A chambered body Les Paul is different than the solid body. This guitar rocks like it is, and after moving the pickup selector switch I had to do something about the hole that was left behind. No regrets here as this guitar whoops.
