In general the stuff labeled "Aria Pro II" (note the "II") is the cool coke, starting around 1980, some from 1978. That is around the same time that other Japanese manufacturers (Greco, Burny, Tokai) straightened up and made better quality things than the Americans did in the years prior to that.
But in 1977 pretty much everything is trash, including the same Japanese makers that later shine for quality.

Yes, this. The Aria Pro II stuff was really excellent. I knew a guy who had a LP style guitar from that range, it was very impressive. They came from that era when the Japanese manufacturers really lifted their game and in some cases were making better instruments than their USA counterparts.

i wish my aria pro ii was as good. mine was plywood and weighs a ton lol. still sounded pretty good. but it had the wrong neck. decent floyd though.

I too still have my Aria Pro II which I've also heavily modified. It's an '85 RS series that was my first and only guitar for almost 15 years. The guitar is extremely solid and well made. The neck is comfy and the construction is flawless. The hardware and electronics, while good enough to last 15+ years, could be better. Mine came with a strange Floyd-wannabe that never really worked right although it does keep it in tune very well.
Since the one you're looking at is already offered as a "project guitar" and you'd have to do some work on the hardware and electronics anyway, I'd be willing to bet you'd be very happy with the base guitar.

Man that is an odd looking thing.
But Aria generally mad some pretty good stuff I've always liked the necks on the ones I've played.
I wouldn't pay big bucks for that one mind. It's a bit of an unknown quantity.
Is it actually proper wood of play with a thin veneer.
How screwed up is the head stock (looks a bit of a mess to me).
If you've got the cash spare it could be an interesting project to get it up and running, and most definitely a funky looking thing when it's finished, but I wouldn't spend over £100 on it.
Aria never quite made the top flight in Jap made guitars. Tokai, Yamaha and Ibanez always seemed one step ahead.
