Time to try that .01uf cap now. ;)

The 500k resistor bothers me,as I Lost about 1/3 of the pickup's volume to the bridge pickup? I need Artie to chime in before I rip this pickup right outta this guitar! LOL

Dadgummit. Sorry about that John. I even just tried to call you to catch you before you started soldering.

This probably isn't a good time to ask you if you can mod my DS-1. :D

Anyway, the de-mud mod goes in series with the whole pup. It trims some bass from the whole thing. Not just one coil. I put it in the red/white junction just because it was convenient. Also, by putting a switch across it, you can click back and forth between in and out.

This mod should work equally well for singles, but you may have to tweak the component values. Those were selected for a humbucker.

Artie....I tryed the mod and it's really good and transparent like you said it was....1 thing it did on my guitar that I didn't like, was it messes with the treble bleed mod and the guitar loses volume alot quicker when you roll the volume back a bit....

The stock Gibson A5 sounds much better and I think it's best to pull this pickup out and either sell it or trade it....Just not happy and I shouldn't have to be modding the pickup with resistors and caps(It's just stupid)....It's just not the right pickup for this guitar and so I'm yanking it out! Thanks buddy...The mod helps, but it's not 100% for my very fussy ears! Maybe it's just the treble bleed mod that makes a difference with the mod,but it did pull alot of the lows away....I can't help but thinking that I shouldn't have to have another resistor and a cap inside the control cavity! ;o)

Well, at least you tried it. :) The values I chose were somewhat dependent on a 59 also. I'm not sure if the affect would be identical with that DMZ. Probably close. And I don't have the treble bleed mod on mine, so I didn't have that problem either.

I thought this at first also. But then I got to thinking, a guitar/pickup/controls/pedals/amps is all a delicate electronic balancing act to begin with. We rewind pups and change mags to "tweak" the sound. Why not add a couple of the cheapest and easiest to install components to the same?

btw - I'm growing to like the A4 59. I'm not so sure I'm going to take it out now. Still messing with it. ;)

Artie

I went back to the original stock Gibson Neck pickup with A5 and I went right back to crisp, clear tone without that damn bassy boomy crap I hate in the neck! This is the pickup that the DMZ VPAF Neck replaced....I Know a Jazz N would be perfect or another Jazz/59 A4 or A5 Hybrid, but I lack the Jazz pickup to make one....I have a ton of 59 pickups though!

I need to trade this DMZ VPAF for the Air Classic which I feel specs out like the Duncan Jazz pickup...I've got money into this new DMZ and I Love the VPAF Hot in the bridge, just need a better suited N pickup is all...The Gibson N pickup is pretty good, but I Know the Jazz or a better suited DMZ would make me happier...I could live with this stock pickup though also I think....LOL :34:

No need to justify anything buddy....The mod did exactly what it was supposed to do,remove lows and muddy tone....The other stuff within my circuit was just added problems in my case, but the mod removed lows and kept the correct volume balance and overall tone of the pickup....I'm best just to move on and find something better...There are tons of choices out there! Thank You Artie...

Cool. I will. I wanted to keep it this long, unmodded, just so I could get a good feel for it stock. Now, I'll be able to appreciate your mods. ;)
