I finished the bypass box built from Artie's design. I also put the 1 meg resistors on the guitar and amp jacks courtesy of Proxy's brain. It works perfectly and I can't hear any pop on my amp when switching channels. Artie and Proxy, You da man! :fing25: :arms:

Now I just need some more pedals to attach to it

very cool...this may come in handy for me for a future pedal board build i'm about to start!


paging Artie...how do we add an LED to this setup that turns on when the bypass is off...so LED is on when effects are on and off when effects are bypassed.

Yeah! I can't beleive this is the first time anyone's mentioned my avatar. That's my weener dog Rocket. He fell asleep like that after chewing on that bottle. Reminded me a little of Slash at the beginning of the Welcome to the Jungle video :laugh2:

LED should be as simple as getting a 3dpdt switch and wiring it up that way

Very nice.

Adding an LED would be pretty easy, but you'll need to add a 9-volt battery and change the switch to a 3PDT. I'll post the simple schematic when I get home, but it's really just an LED in series with a resistor, in series with the switch, across the battery.

The resistor value is calculated by (9 - LED Fv) / (LED current) where Fv = the LED's forward voltage, typically 1.7 volts. (It will say on the LED package.)

the answer to your question is this ... a bypass box creates a footswitchable effects loop (in a sense). what it does is when in the off position, you have basically a solid connection through the box with no interruption. in the on position, the signal goes through whatever pedals you have connected to it. like if you had a distortion pedal that was noisy in the off position you could use a box like this and keep the distortion on all the time, it'll only be in the signal path when the bypass box is on. This gives you a "True Bypass" circuit.

Anytime, glad to pass on the knowledge, LED would be cool to add for the sport of it, but I'm sure you know when the loop is engaged or not.

Yeah, I've build a few of these. Very handy. The LED actually is a must. That schematic is exactly how I had mine, except my pedal had a few loops...
