Despite my soldering hand not being quite as steady as it used to, I am planning wiring in a push pull to my Washburm WI66 to get Artie's coil swap mod. Will probably later also replace other vol pot with a second push pull to give combined OOP /series. This will give me my favourite Jimmy Page variation...series/ parallel options, coil swap and a combined OOP /series with the added benefit of blend possibilities.
The WI66 is a really great guitar as regards sound and playability made to a high spec in SK.. Sadly, for some reason , this model went out of production many years ago and no comparable replacement was marketed except ,for a period when .an expensive USA made version was available. Its quirk is that instead of tone controls for the 2 SD pups Washburn installed its VCC control which enables you to blend each pup between series and parallel. This control is, I believe ,a dual linear 500k pot wired as in the diagram below. FWIW I have no issues with playing a guitar using only the tone controls on the amp.
Although the wiring looks a bit complex ,I think the coil swap mod can be achieved by simply “interrupting” the green wires from the pick ups in the diagram from coil 2 to the VCC control with the coil swap push pull. See sketch below..Sorry about both being labelled Fiig 2 . Hopefully this will not cause confusion
Hopefully ,when the coil swap is engaged , it will be possible to blend the slug coil of one pick up with the screw coil of the other between series and parallel..
I can't see why this should not work but perhaps I am missing something. Accordingly would appreciate relevant comments from others.
I think there is sufficient difference between the Custom Custom and the 59 to make the coil swap interesting.
