Re: ARTs and crafts

Drooled over this when I was a pup. If they had a pink-less version I probably would have bought it.

Re: ARTs and crafts

forgot... I also use my ART SGX 2000 as a practice/headphone amp from time to time.. MUCH more responsive that the GR4/PC but i still prefer that to the sgx..I might experiment with some IR's and run the SGX through the PC interface but i suspect my overall problem is the interface.. Still the SGX still has many usable sounds considering its age IMO so it wont be a total waste of time. Even being as old as it is. the SGX has some really nice and warm cleans and chorus. The distortions are very much a hit and miss affair BUT the sounds are in there. Just got find them

Those big ART rack pieces were life goals for me as a beginner back in the early 90's.

You happy now, mother****er?

Yeah, I’m happy.

Re: ARTs and crafts

If I had seen that I may have never bought my gsp2101- which I loved ever so much slightly more than I hated. The sgx 2000 I probably would have mostly hated.

Re: ARTs and crafts

I had the X-15. Good for (sort of) controlling the SGE Mach II I had. It basically sent Program Changes with 2 CC changes for the expression pedals, so not really great for the system I was using, which also included a synth an a rack mount looper, which needed note on and a host of CC#s. I remember the expression pedals sent messages in blocks, so it would go from, like 25 to 55 to 75, etc, instead of a smooth transition. Boy that sounded great.

Re: ARTs and crafts

There’s nothing like a design flaw that makes a product unusable.

Re: ARTs and crafts

I think it was dumbed down to make it easy to program, and to control 1 pice of gear, barely. The buttons on the foot controller were hard to press, and the expression pedals frequently became loose, so they would flop down. And don't get me started on that paint being a bad design decision.

Re: ARTs and crafts

Just remember that the SGX has this pretty mid-heavy sound that you will have to sort of scoop out of every preset. You can, however, make some crazy sounds with it that I've never been able to duplicate on modern units.

Re: ARTs and crafts

There was a website where you could download other user's presets. I remember there being a great VH patch and a Vai patch that were spot on. You might want to give a search for them.

Re: ARTs and crafts

As strange as it seems now there was a time when I was insanely jealous of a friend of mine that had one of these, He had this cool rack system with the SGX2000 and a ADA power amp, I sat there green with envy playing through my Marshall JMP and a tube screamer.... My how things have changed.

Re: ARTs and crafts

As I recall, a lot of dudes that had that kind of rack gear back in the day went overboard with the units' effects. Resulted in a lot of bad rhythm tones. Had they just ran them drier they probably would have worked out better.

Re: ARTs and crafts

I remember the SGE had a unique take on reverse delay: the delay was forward, but the first repeat was quiet, and then got a little louder with every repeat. Really cool. They also had a great gated reverb.

Re: ARTs and crafts

Well...how does the tone hold up? I used to be a wiz at programming mine back then. This was before computer editors, but I got really good at flying around that thing.
