As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

Well the DC Drive got out of the door.....
Took one of my speciements with me home...and tweaked...again;)
Just for the fun of it, plus I was curious about this slightly different platform.
So I changed stuff around, did a few you cannot do that and make it sound good things as well....
Here is a picture of the guts..

And a clip...while I am at it....

Funny how a few tweaks can change a pedal totally.
As I rather like the normal DC Drive...hehe

Re: As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

Nice. What changes did you make? And what's that 16 pin guy there? Quad op amp?

Re: As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

How close is it to the HDB? Sounded a bit thicker, with more personality to me, based on the soundclips.
You should try that clipping section I told you about someday Niels! Best I ever tried, still in that HDB which is my main mid gain OD :D

Re: As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

;)
Nah we have moved beyond diodes by now:D
We are doing some rather funny stuff right now....
And this one here is just a tweaked DC, they are both rather fat.
First batch of DCs are gone.....that did not take long....wicked!
The basic layout of the circuit is about the same, but different powersupply, and a very different filtering.
Plus the switch for fat and regular:)

Re: As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

My clipping section isn't all diode :D Well there are some... can't recall it entirely but I think it's a tranny + 1N34 on one side, and a single 1N4148 on the other. Very, very rich sound. I'm finding transistors used as clipping diodes provide a little... 'more'. Dunno. Sounds a bit different. I really dig it.

Re: As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

Yep...but it is the diode bridge that you are using in those:D
Look at the picture above, the rectifier "diode" is a BF256 Fet.
And I use several other ones as well....
But right now we doing some cascading stuff.....
Soon I will swim in a pool full of bloody trimmers:D
Merde...hehe

Re: As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

Nice. Sounds great.

I love OD pedals but I always find that I don't like using them much in a live situation. Gimme all I need from the amp and I'm happy.

Re: As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

Thanks:)
Ah the amp and OD thing.....to me that depends on the amp.
As you most likely know Erik, a pedal cannot make an amp sound better than it is.
While a good amp can save a pedal:)
As for the discussion about amp or pedals......that is up to what works for the individual.

Re: As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

What can go in the blank spaces?[top left side of the pic ,on the circuitboard] Are they for,Other mods/models?And is that an inductor to the right of them?

Re: As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

That's quite the range there man! Any other models planned? A RR with Tap maybe? Otherwise looks like you have the whole line well planned out!

Re: As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

There is 9 models now, the two newest I will not show until we are official at Frankfurt:)
Eh where should the tap circuit be in the RR???;)
No room in there.
And it is the cheapest delay we make, and it is not a full digital delay either, uses a PT2399 chip for delay, otherwise it is made like an old analouge delay, all of our delays have an analouge drypath, only the delayed signal is digital.

Re: As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

I love the Combinator. I'd buy one if I could afford it, and my pedal board was the size of a VW Beetle ;)

Re: As soon it is done...no fun....od pedal.

Well 8 pedals, build in powersupply for 9v pedals, 3 banks.
Dunno it is not very large to me:)
And if you use Boss or Ibanez, Hardwired or alike, it can be quite neat in size.
Cannot live without my own;)

Looks like I'm going to use an OD out front after all. This will allow me to dial the gain on the amp back (my Marshall) so I can get a "clean as possible" tone by rolling the guitar volume back and then hit it with the OD for heavier tones. I'm going with my SD-1 modded to TS808 specs. I want to get another DS-1 for kicks, do a simple fat mod that Jack Orman shared on his blog, and hear how that sounds with the Marshall. It turns the DS-1 in to more of an overdrive and takes out the fizz. Really cool mod.
