asked what pup for christmas by bassist? DIMEBUCKER?

SABOTAGE

my bassist insists on getting me a duncan for christmas and the only one i would like to try is the dime?
I was very interested in the lawrence 500xl but have heard many a complaint and confusion about them? :smack:
anyway i was reading this,
What pickups does Dimebag Darrell of Pantera use?
Dime was on a tone quest for a long time before he and Washburn Guitars came to us. He had tried numerous custom wound pickups, but none were giving him the tone he was looking for. At the time Dime and Washburn came to us, Dime was using a custom wound pickup that he called an XXL-500. It was not available to the public. And it was still not giving Dime his tone. That's when Dime and Washburn turned to us. We started with Dime's best-sounding XXL-500 and then made numerous tweaks. We changed the magnet type, the wire gauge, the number of turns, and other factors. Dime tested the pickups on tour, so they got real world "arena" testing. After a few back-and-forth exchanges, we finally nailed his tone. And that's the SH-13 Dimebucker. It's the pickup that Dime uses and -- for the first time -- the pickup Dime uses is available to the public. It works great in Dime's solid state amps as well as tube amps. For more information about Dime and the Dimebucker, read his interview on this site
http://www.seymourduncan.com/website/artists/interview_archive.shtml#dime. Dime does a great job describing the distortion quality of the pickup.

is this pup real good? can anyone tell me it's tonal characteristics?
would it take on the SAVAGE?

Bump. Not many people have played the Dime in this forum, relative to most other pickups, so you gotta be patient ;D

I'm interested in it as well.

i havent played it....but from what i remember other people saying, they think it actually has a pretty decent clean tone surprisingly...

I hear a lot of good things about the pickup actually. I vote in favor of getting the SH-13. Give us a review. If it's good, keep it - if it's bad, exchange it. That'd be nice! :)

I have two.
And let me tell you, It's not a super high gain pickup like most would think.
The Dime is actually a very well rounded pickup with a crunch.
Its got a thick-crunch tone with awesome dynamics and sweet bass response.
It does a good job at taking your tone and just smushing it together, giving you a warm, thick sound.
I sometimes like to think of it as being a cross between the invader and the JB.

If you want to hear it, then go to the clips forum. I had a few clips over there using the Dime in one of my SGs

Here's the link with clips of the Dime
