Re: ASKING FOR PICKUP ADVICE: Tips, Hints, and Suggestions
Yes,
What you say is true, that is one of the reasons I said "generational thing" . Showing my age. However, and I think this is worthy of consideration, regardless of age, if a name is "connected" with a sound, then you would be able, after learning the other factors involved such as THIER gear vs. the "name" gear you would have a fuller picture in your head of how to achaive the sound with ANOTHER piece of the puzzle.
I am all too aware of the minority age group I am in, still, if someone said Mike Bloomfield and told me they were playing a Les Paul Jr. through a solid state amp I would have a recognizable sound in my head immediately, and what I am working with to help said forum person. Although Mike Bloomfield is a very obscure reference for todays player between 10-40, I believe the idea is still a good one.
Say a guy wants to sound like Paul Gilbert and he tells you he has a stock tele with a 50 watt Hi-Watt amp and a re-issue Big-Muff, a much younger person like yourself would still have a better idea, I think, what a guy is after in a pickup sound and how to get there with what he has, or what to change in his rig to help you help him. Can't hurt, just an extra piece of info to work off of.
