ahhhh, there's an 85 Baretta sitting in a local shop right now. Just don't have the cash....thanks for making me feel worse!

ESP didn't build all those. They built the obvious imports (Focus series, Striker series, etc). ESP made bodies and necks, shipped them to Neptune NJ, and they were built there. Sports (a Canadian company) also made some parts earlier on.

i was a teenager in the 80's and Kramers ruled the era... and yup a white Baretta with a rosewood board neck was all a dreamed about in the mid-late 80's... never did get one... i had to make do with a awful Striker! i smashed that Striker after the wood around the trem post screws failed... at a guitar sale a few years ago i found another striker someone had added a Dimarzio and a EDGE trem to it for dirt cheap... i got the Striker, 10 packs of store brand strings, and a baseball hat all for $99... the Dimarzio and EDGE are for other projects... managed to turn the striker into a working guitar again with spare cheap parts laying around

In the mid-80's, Kramer changed their body and neck source to ESP. They were getting necks from ESP for a time before then but not the bodies. ESP would send the raw bodies and necks to Neptune, NJ where the bodies were prepped, painted and hardware put on, necks were sanded and fretted and final assembly took place. Towards the end of the 80's, I think that some of the bodies came from ESP already painted but I'm not 100% on that. The headstock is the more common tilted "pointy" headstock, painted black (or matched color on custom models).
