Attenuator sizes

Are the sizes of an attenuator supposed to match or be larger than the wattage of your amp? For instance ,can I use a 25 mini mass with my 55 watt amp or do I need to go larger?I wasnt sure if the wattage rating had something to do with how much the attenuator can take from your amp or if its the other way around.

Re: Attenuator sizes

Make sure your attenuator exceeds the wattage of your amp or you will cook the attenuator. I had a Mass 50 for a long time and just got a Mass 100. I find the 100 to be more clear, have more volume and sound better at quieter levels. It even sounds better with my lower watt heads. Don't know exactly why but I am really impressed.

Just like speakers.

You're taking your chances with an attenuator that's rated at less power than your amp. No harm in going with a much higher capacity attenuator as long as you're happy with the results.

Same here!

Sold the MASS 50 to get a Stereo 100 to run 2 amps through.....my 20w DST sounds fantastic through it!!!
