I recently aquired a 6 month old american made jackson SL-2. The guitar sounded OK and played OK. Nothing great though. I thought it would be like my Japense SL-4, take it home and set it up and It will be great. WRONG!!!!!! I tried setting it up and I noticed that the neck buzzed every where no matter what I did to it. I guess they dont belive in leveling. I also noticed glue on the fretboard near the fret wire on a few frets. SLOPPY!!!! I decided to swap Pickups anyway for the heck of it. I used a custom 5 and a pg neck. Not too bad but not great either. Sort of muddy. I took those out and put in two Dimarzio Paf Pros, Very muddy!!!!! I have played them before and that was not the case. I also tried a set of peavey wolfgang pickups I had sitting around. I had about the same result. They are usually trebaly. I then decided to take the guitar back. Glad I did. I guess Fender screwed up a good thing.
Has any body else had any experience with a newer jackson since Fender bought them? Or did I Just get a lemon?

Re: ATTN. Jackson NOW SUCKS!!!!!!!

I dont think Fender screwed with the quality control, you may have gotten a lemon. I don't understand what your talking about anyways, Customs aren't muddy, 59's aren't muddy, PAF pros aren't muddy? What exactly is going on? I am not believing this, sorry.

Lol,

Yep, sounds like a lemon.

I dunno if the 'muddy' issue is BS. A previous owner may nave been a tinkerer and messed with the electronics.

First mistake, assuming a 6 month old guitar is as it came from the factory. I´ve seen guys nearly destroy an axe in 6 months. But assuming it was generally in good condition..... ;)

Yes they do, Jackson actually has a reputation for some of the best fretwork in the business. The question now is just: was the guitar this bad from the factory? Then it may very well be a lemon.

This is more likely a factory error, although it´s the first time I´ve ever heard of tham doing something so "obvious" ;)

The scooped EQ of the C-5 combined with the strong lower midrange spike of a neck-thru is ASKING for mud IMO, try the "Original" custom instead. But the others also being muddy is a bit strange, as others have said a quick electronics check may have alleviated that. My Soloists all have no problems with mud at all... ;)

I then decided to take the guitar back. Glad I did. I guess Fender screwed up a good thing.
Where is it, is it still for sale? As far as Fender goes, they´ve done more for jackson since late 2002 that AKAI did in almost 10 years. Return of the strathead, new endorsers (incl. EVH), Charvel is sudddenly back with a vengeance....

Has any body else had any experience with a newer jackson since Fender bought them? Or did I Just get a lemon?
Yes, and they were all good (USA Jacksons, I personally don´t care much for Imports).

I´m pretty sure you just got a Lemon, I honestly can´t imagine a USA Jackson being that bad. But things happen;)

Re: ATTN. Jackson NOW SUCKS!!!!!!!

Dude, you pissed Zerb off so bad. LOL. I think his handle should be Jacksonologist. Speaking of Jacksons, there's a USA made one in like new condition at a pawnshop. If I was a shredder or heavy riffin dude, I'd get it. SSH setup, Org. Floyd, that kick ass swirly paintjob. Almost makes me wanna forget the blues and go to metal. ALMOST.

Price? Serial Number? With case? ;)

Re: ATTN. Jackson NOW SUCKS!!!!!!!

Price is like 499 or something. I dunno, I'll have to go recheck, Same w/ the serial number. I do know it comes w/ a Jackson HS case, but I dont know if it's the OHSC.

WHA?? Serial is 499?? Then it´s a fake :D:D:D

Please drop me a line when you know more, sounds interesting ;)

Re: ATTN. Jackson NOW SUCKS!!!!!!!

I got a USA SL2H last Feburary, it was built right from the factory because they didn't have the finish "on hand" that i wanted.[ it was ivory] I still have had no problems with it to this day..... MY girlfriend [who i love very much!] bought me an import Dinky , DK2 and with a few pickup changes it screams! I even just traded an epi explorer for a DXMG which will be here next week. As far as i and everyone else at the music store are concerned, Fender hasn't changed quailty for the worse, and i would say if it changed at all, it was for the better. Come on, they brought back Mike Shannon!! haha

I think what Beandip meant there was that he's not sure of the price, and even less sure of the serial number. I don't think he meant the serial was 499.

I know the pickups are not muddy. I am saying they sounded very muddy in that guitar. Why? I do not know. I have played those pickups before and liked them very much. They just didnt sound good in that guitar.

It could of had 250k pots in it. I didnt even check that. I thought it would have 500ks in it so I never even checked. I bought it and returned it to guitar center in 7 corners (Falls Church) VA. I am not sure if it is still there.

Re: ATTN. Jackson NOW SUCKS!!!!!!!

Did you play it acousticly (is that even a word?) before buying it, or did you just plug it into an amp? I always play guitars without an amp when shopping. If a guitar has a good acoustic voice, then any electronic shortcomings will not matter (pickups and pots can always be swapped out.)
