autec and akg

i'm thinking of buying some recording gear and i've come across autec mics. i've heard good things about them, but i'm not too sure really. so i've decided to come and ask you guys. specifically i'm speaking of the drum set, which are dynamic mics, and a voice condenser mic that is made for studio use. prices are about $315 and $280 respectively. i also saw an akg d870 for $110. what do you think? what would you recommend if your budget is at $1,000. FYI these are prices in mexico. prices here suck.

Do you mean Audix? I've literally never heard of Autec as a brand.

Audix makes a lot of good mics, though.

Are you looking for an entire set of drums to mic a kit, or just for one piece in particular?

Autec is apparently a branch of Audio-Technica. I know Audio Technica makes pretty good, reliable stuff. No experience with the Autec stuff is though.

As for AKG, they also make good quality stuff.
