Authenticity of Seth Lover ...???

Hey everyone,

Does anyone have any pics of the back of a nickel covered Seth Lover bridge pup? I found one in original box at a local pawn shop... but I doubt its legit? The back is brass colored, and there is no Seymour Duncan imprint or sticker. The wire lead is black rubber/plastic jacketed with a single red jacketed inner lead wire surrounded by a woven silver wire "shielding" type jacket/ground lead. The only marking is a larger that pencil size "R" in a circle (registered) symbol. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum! I don't have any pics, but can tell you a Seth Lover has a nickel silver baseplate (not brass), and a single braided wire for hookup. It will also have a blue "Seymour Duncan" signature on the back.

In short, that's not a Seth Lover pup.

This is definitley not a Seymour Duncan pickup. He never ever used (and he probably never will) a brass backplate. Your find is a generic pickup of asian origin, i have some pairs like that in my dustbin. The R indicates the neck pickups (Rhythm), the bridges carry an L for Lead.
What happened? Someone changed out his neck pickup and put in a Seth Lover. The stock pickup was stored away in the now empty box.

The pickup described in the OP is definitely not a Seymour Duncan.

For reference: the Seths (and the Ants) do come on bases that are not embossed with the Seymour Duncan logo, they have plain bases. They are nickel/chrome color, though.

Well, thanks all of you. The excitement I felt initially was squelched once I examined it. Now you've confirmed it. However, now I'm concerned about the poor soul who actually goes into that shop and buys the thing, puts it into his/her precious axe and spends the next decade ranting about how sucky those Duncans are. I think I need to go by there with a pic of a REAL Seth Lover and show them that they can't sell it in that box. Any thoughts on how I might accomplish this... Better Business Bureau, etc?

It's a classic case of somebody buying Duncans to replace junk, then putting the junk into the Duncan boxes because it's the obviously place.

Clueless other guy comes across them thinking they got what's written on the box.

I had that happen on the 'bay recently, an Antiquity box with a Gibson 490R in it; I should've insisted on a backside pic of it before buying. Fortunately, the seller was a stand up guy and refunded my money; even let me keep the 490R (not that I need any more of them).
