Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

I'm probably going to be getting an Avatar 2x12 as soon as I get some money together. The Legacy 4x12 is cool and sounds great, but so does a 2x12, as I found out on a gig a week ago. I rarely need as much firepower as a 4x12 can offer. What kind do you have and how do you like yours?

Re: Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

I had one, sold it in favour of a 1960vintage (v30s).

I dislike the avatar, very little bass response and didn't sound anywhere near as big as the marshall.

Re: Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

I think that my cab sounds great and at $315.00 delivered for a 2X12 with Vintage 30's it is a no brainer.

What was it, a 4x12? What was it loaded with? Come on - INFO, man!! ;)

Re: Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

I only have a 1x12, closed back, with a Hellatone 60 (Vintage 30, broken in and some sort of secret cone treatment), I love it.

Re: Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

I've got one of the open-backed, cube shaped 1x12's and am not crazy about it. this one. Too boomy and not as crisp on the high end as a shallower open-backed combo. The "Vintage" 1x12 looks like much better dimensions.

Construction quality is fine and the price was right, FWIW.

Re: Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

I had a 2x12 with V30's, as you might remember...

It really didn't sound anywhere near as good as my Rivera or either Mesa's - lacked punch and fullness in the lower frequencies.

That said, the new ones that look like Orange cabinets... I'm quite curious about those! Unfortunately, you could get a used Mesa for the same price, so I haven't thought about them too heavily.

I've got a 2X12 loaded with a V30 a G12H30 and have been nothing but satisfied with it. It's a cliche but great price, great quality.

Re: Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

I have two 2x12's one loaded with V30's and the other loaded with g12h30 hellatones and I love both of them.

Re: Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

Had a 2x12 loaded with a vintage 30 and g12h30 a while back. LOVED it. But I sold all of my electric gear at one point for an acoustic rig. Now im back in the electric game and thinking of getting another 2x12 in the sme configuration

Re: Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

I see they're building a full-sized 4x12 now. Mine is only 12" deep compared to the "standard" 14" deep. I've heard reviews here and there that the 4x12s lack something that a typical Marshall or other standard sized cab has. I have no basis of comparison since this is my first, and I don't jam with anyone right now. It's a great bang for the buck and that's for sure, but I'm considering picking up an OS Splawn 2x12 to "complete" the set. I'll know better the differences at that point. My only regret getting the Avatar 4x12? I should have gone Oversized 212. The 4x12 is just too much for what I'm doing this moment. But, at the time Avatar was out of the OS212s and I wanted something a little bigger than the standard 2x12 - no reason - just personal preference I guess. Oh, and I have the H30/V30 Hellatones. I like 'em.

B2, I know this doesn't help, but just for anyone else out there.

Re: Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

I've had 4 of them over the years and currently have 2.

1 2x12 with the v30/h30 combo
1 2x12 with the v30 hellatones

All my cabs have sounded great and have been built like tanks. I did have one issue with a cab and it was resolved with one phone call and a next day delivered part at no expense on my part. Great products and great service after the sale as well.

Re: Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

Seems like the people who didn't care for them seem to have all had an issue with not having enough bass response, interesting...

Re: Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

How do you like your JVM?

The JVM is the amp I have always wanted, Marshall tone in many variations! I have never heard a Marshall that sounded so good at such low volume, being a home player I figured a great sounding 100 watt head was out of the question but I was proven wrong.

It was a 2x12, loaded with v30/g12h30.

I know your going to say that it's just the diff between 2x12's and 4x12's... But I tried it against a mesa 2x12 too... It's just a weak.

Re: Avatar cab owners, sound off!!

I have a closed back G212H with V30 Hellatones that sounds 'kay, but a little too boomy/woofy for my tastes. Much prefer the sound of my Carvin Legacy 2x12 (which has about 30% less internal volume than the Avatar) with standard V30s or a G12T-75 + an Eminence Governor.

Mkay cool... i was just wondering if you had G12T75's in there or not (I don't like those much). But thanks for the info.

Chops has a Legacy 2x12 actually.... I have a Legacy 4x12. Together they're like a 3/4 stack! :headbang: His sounds killer.

Were the cabs with a perceived lack of bass response open-back or closed-back? In my experience, whilst an open-back 2x12 has a lot less bass response than a 4x12, a closed back 2x12 is closer to the 4x12 than it is to the open-back 2x12.
