Well it is not that awesome but anyways. So I went to guitar center just to play around. I tried some strats and teles and gretches and gibsons all on a marshall tube combo. None of them really impressed me but I saw the ugly travel guitar, the Traveler Speedster, hanging by the amps. I usually don't even go near it but I said what the hell...this guitar is awesome, it was my favorite guitar I played in the store. The neck was awesome and the sound was fantastic considering what the guitar looked like, the volume knob is in the most perfect spot, right under your hand, but recessed so it will not get in the way of strumming, perfect for violin type volume swells. I was so impressed with this guitar that I want one now, even though I really don't have a need for (though I could find one) or the money plus I just ordered a Michael Kelly. Anyways that was my story sorry if I was too boring. Rock on.

the same thing happened to me yesterday (only different :laugh2
. went to the shop, saw an old barclay (harmony) rocket selling for 75 bucks. decided to try it out. i walked out of there with a new guitar (the toggle switch is getting fixed, so i don't have pics but it's the double cutaway version)

+1......they must have been those weird import "gretsch" guitars. Thats the only way someone could possibly Not love a gretsch.

Well the gretch was pretty awesome, my dad just grabbed it and put it in my hands, it was nice. but like every other frickin guitar in the store it was out of tune and I didn't fell like playing with all of those knobs so I just put it back, plus the price was too high for me to even look at. Now that I think about it, the gretches were cool. anyways...

Yeah, How is it that in every guitar center on the Planet, Every guitar is always outta tune? Thats has always confused me.

Cool story, it's amazing that sometimes the really cheap guitars can surprise you.

Because some idiot feels the need to go in there and pick up a guitar with 9s, drop it down to C tuning, play through a Mesa for five minutes and place it back on the wall, disgusted because the guitar buzzes like crazy. Then some beginner picks the guitar up and attempts to put it back to standard tuning, gets "close" and plays out of tune for 30 minutes, playing the same emo flavor-of-the-week song over and over and over. Finally, one of us picks up the guitar, tunes it right, plays it for a while, and puts it back because we are the pickiest bunch on the planet, and the guitar was 2 ounces too light or the neck was 1/64" to thick. Then the cycle repeats until someone finally purchasees the poor guitar.

AND.... when ya go into the acoustic room if you happen to find one in tune with itself you can hang up trying to find 2 guitars in tune with each other!:smack:

i actually dig the wiring on those
most of the ones i've played have 1 volume knob for each pickup, and then a master volume knob, so you can set your blend between the bridge & neck pickup perfectly, and just turn the master down if you wanna clean up the tone or it's the end of the song & you don't want feedback, it's a really great idea IMO

They actually had a Gretch at GC? Was it used, because I've never seen one at the Boston branch. 95% of the shelf space is Fender, Gibson, Shecter and PRS, with the occasional BC Rich Bronze.
It is fun to be suprised by a guitar that you pick up just for laughs. I remember they had this horrible used Tele copy: Purple with a gold racing strip, an Invader in the bridge with no neck pickup, and it weighed about 2 pounds. It was such an abberation that I had to take it for a spin even though I dislike Teles, really dislike single pickup guitars and THOROUGHLY dislike buckers (especially high output) in a tele. Surprise! It had a really smooth-playing neck, easily the most comfortable T-style body I've ever played and a great crunch tone. I caught myself almost considering putting up the $300 they wanted for it!

Yah the have quite a few gretches in Ohio, but they are dwidling down. Yah about Tuning. I almost want to go to random guitar centers and go to the manager and tune all of the guitars for X amount of dollars. I bet you they would sell alot more guitars! When I pick up and guitar and it is out of tune, I am almost automatically turned off and I am definately turned off it I tune it and then it goes out of tune.
